Hey, Jerry, sorry I haven't been around for awhile. this video really
struck a chord with me. I've been in therapy for two years straight now,
for help with PTSD and a Traumatic brain injury, received in an accident in
2012. my therapy is what convinced me to take up the Mandolin. we talked
previously, about the Rogue mandolin package. I went with an Ibanez
instead. now I am going to get some beginner lessons, and then I want to
learn the number system, from you. I just wanted to say, I never really
knew how true, the statement is, you never know when you're time is up.
this Mandolin , is the prettiest one of yours, I've seen So far.
Thanks so much for continuing to watch. This mandolin sounds so much better in person it is possible to describe without bragging too much. The customer was beside himself with joy. He wanted a mandolin that matched his Loar that he could play out without the worry of the Loar being stolen or getting damaged. He also wanted a louder instrument that could hold up to a banjo in a jam. I think he finally got what he was searching for. For the record, he also owns a number of other mandolins including at least two Gilchrists. Good luck (praying for you) on your continued recovery. I'm more than willing to help you with the NNS. Hang in there.
Beautiful Mandolin Jerry!! I remember the one you made for Leon Hassel. I
think you made it out of old barnwood? I think Mike Roth has it now. I
remember playing at your house with my Dad, Danny. Would love to have one
of your mandolins. Do you sell the antler bridges separate? thanks Jerry!!!
Daniel Duncan
Thanks Daniel. Yes I do sell the antler saddles. They are $29.95 + $3.00 shipping. taxes when applicable are included. You can send payment via PayPal to: [email protected]
Wow, Jerry, that's a beauty and I love the tone. You are too tough on your
playing, "Johnny Comes Marching Home" sounded good! Hope you feel better
soon and get over your cold, and I'm also sorry to hear about Ken too.
RSW The Difference Between a Real Morel Mushroom and a False Morel
Here's a look at a "false" Morel compared to a real Morel mushroom. Some people eat both kinds. But some people get sick eating the false morel (also called ...
Thanks for doing this important video. I used to hunt morels when I lived
in Northern Canada 1972 to 1982.. These false morels grew right along side
the morels. We called them brain mushrooms. I never touched them since I
had been told they were poison and could kill you. There were plenty of
morels to pick.
Hi ...um I just bought a guitar before one month ago and i found crack on
top before few days .. i dont know how it happened ? could it happen by
itself? is its possible to happen by itself if the wood guilty is bad and
should i fix that crack because i dont think it effect on its sound .Plz i
need your answer
Thanks for commenting. It is difficult to answer without seeing it. If the crack is "structural" then it needs to be fixed. If it is cosmetic, then it only needs to be fixed if it is affecting the sound by vibrating.

+Seth B Thanks for commenting. The two parts were in "stress" together. Lifting the brace lifted the top crack back into position. It was not difficult to coat all surfaces with glue and brace into position. It would have been more difficult to do it in two separate operations because of the tension between the two parts. Just like anything, there's always more than one way to skin a cat. Obviously, I chose the option that worked for me.
+Rosa String WorksId have saved the brace for last to allow me to flex that top around and make sure the top crack had glue in it. If the crack had opened up more, I would put in a splint patch on top. I am not a big fan of cleats under the top and using a violin type crack clamp to pull then closed. That just makes the top crack in another location, later on. I have a ladder braced 12 I am doing a brace repair on. I will put small chunks of carbon pulltruded fiber sheet on the brace so it won't split again. One large piece of carbon fiber will make the top too stiff and the guitar will sound really bright and glassy. A lot of bluegrass players like that sound, but, this is a 12 string.
Thats a really neat job my friend. Can i make a sugestion for improvement?
I see you have to twist and turn alot to pick up a log. If you extend the
machine out from the linkage a bit then you could add a back plate. Then
you can straighten up the log by simply driving into it (simular to a
dozer) with the splitter in front of the blade. Im not sure you understand
what i mean. Its just an observation and might make things easier
Thanks for your comment. That probably would work for alignment. Will give it some thought. I think full blade would also limit visibility. Maybe a small strip of steel rather than a full blade. Anyway, its a good idea.
In this video, I show off some custom made Deer Antler Saddles, tell you about this weekend's Mandolin Workshops in Lewistown, IL where I'll be teaching the ...

I do I have all the tools to repair but they are not cheap I am sure you
know that. Were can we get more information on the deer saddle. The coast

Great Video Jerry! After watching it I wish I had made my fret end file
instead of buying it, a 2x4 about 4-6 inches long with one file slot cut
into it 90 degrees, and another on the other side at 35 degrees would do
the trick. I can't remember what I paid for it but they are handy
especially when installing new frets. Thanks for the plug! I really
appreciate that! The second way you pronounced my name is correct, many
years ago they used to pronounce it the third way you said it and it
changed over the years I guess. I still have trouble with it myself
sometimes lol Anyways many thanks! I'll let you know when the saddle
arrives, from what you said I'm thinking this mandolin is going to be very
much improved, it already sounds pretty good and I believe your saddle is
going to add to what it already has. Thanks again my friend!

Thanks for the plug Jerry and the tour too! You have a very beautiful place
there! I hate to say it but I remember those Ford trucks, my dad was a Ford
man and had several that looked very much like yours, he had 2 1951 Dodges
trucks at one point and I remember him trading both of them for a Ford
about 1959 I think, just too many years to remember. Good luck on the new
shop it's looking great! And thanks again!
