SSD TRIM Command Explained
No doubt solid state drives (SSD's) are faster than hard disk drives (HDD's), but they can't keep up their quick speed forever. In order to maintain an SSD, you ...
I'll be getting a macbook pro 13" soon, and possibly getting a 3rd party
ssd 6-12 months later. I'm mainly concerned about the life of my ssd. I've
seen all over that SSDs last a very short period of time while using
standby and hibernate modes. I'm one of those users who never shuts down
their computer, and uses standby mode. Won't my ssd still be on during
standby time, and using battery life? TRIM will only force it to be
powered, correct? I'd like to get some questions answered...
@MineKraftTK I think the reason people say that using hibernate reduces the
life of your SSD is because it increase write cycles. With TRIM support,
though, and modern tech, I don't really see as being much of an issue. The
SSD in my iMac has been working fine the past few months. I think Macs have
a power saving feature that kills unnecessary disk activity.
It will slow down over time, but it won't slow down as fast as it would
without TRIM. You'll still use up write cycles, but not as many as fast. I
have a better video on my NonTechno channel, annotation link at the
beginning of the video.
most people don't wanna bother with lengthy text explanations and would
rather kick back to a video. This guy found an opportunity in the market
and got a pretty easy 9.5k views
There are a lot of ssd's, There were some problem at first because of
firmware and because SSD were pretty new back then. Not only that, There
are TLC, MLC, They can be both pretty good but the problem is write
endurance, You can install OS on it, You can install games on it, You can
install programs on it, No problem, But the biggest problem is downloading,
They'll break fast(er) when you keep writing on it, especially on TLC which
is the lowest grade.. Not to mention he might not have had TRIM
a hardware test company in our country(netherlands) called hardware.info
tested the 256gb model to the fullest. writting almost 4TB a day. to test.
it lasted about 2.5months. witch they calculated to be 75 year in normal
use(10GB/day). so with 512gb you dont have to worry it will stop working in
technical life time(after 5-10year most people bought a new one)
Maybe, I wonder, you can always secure erase the drive. Not to mention it
could be even more durable when lowering the partition size. For example
you got a 512 GB SSD, partition it with 450 ~ GB or something like that and
it will use that space to solve any death sectors.
im putting one of these beast in my 1st build (900D with all ekwb water
blocks) looks amazing i think its worth the 400$. of course i will be
getting a 2tb caviar black for all my media cause jus like you i have a
problem with filling HD's up
Alright I'm watching the part where you open all of the apps at once. Holy
shit. I just bought this SSD and I had no idea it would be that fast. That
makes my current system look like it's from 1995.
Do not raid 0 SSD drives, you do not get the performance boost you think in
"real-world" use. It is slower! Read the arcticle on Tom's Hardware called:
One SSD Vs. Two In RAID: Which Is Better?
well i have a friend that had another ssd that was terrible, i dont know
wat it was called but I am using a 840 pro ssd and it is still fast to this
date!!!
