ASUS U36S Disassembly and New Hard Drive Installation Tutorial
This video tutorial shows how to open an ASUS notebook (U36 series) and replace the default hard drive with a new one. A Samsung 840 SSD unit is used as ...
What is please the correct SSD size/casing as replacement for the original
HDD? I know there are at least 2 common types distinct in dimensions. I
know I am able to find out myself, but why not to ask - it's easier :)
Thanks!
+crysmanowicz The Samsung 840 EVO I used as a replacement for the original Seagate Momentus 500GB HDD (which was a 9mm drive) was 7 mm thick but I managed to fit it perfectly into the original case thanks to a pair of rubber stripes I had laying around. I think you don't necessarily need to do this trick because the case has 4 screws and the SSD will not move at all even if it is 2 mm thinner than the original.

I formated my U36SG and it says to install Intel HD Graphics Driver 3000,
every single driver i've tried seems to have failed, does anyone know which
one is the correct version?
@MetalThrashinMad91 Look around a little bit, and you'll find the
U36Jc-NYC2 model. That is the one I purchased. It was only $650, but the
hardware is exactly the same as the B1 model. Lack of a disk drive is the
only REAL downfall, but all of my games are digital, and I usually do a
windows install through USB anyway. The speakers are meh. The N-Series
sounds so nice compared to the mediocre speakers in the U36Jc, but the
headphone amplifier preforms great. That's all that matters anyway. lol.
@MetalThrashinMad91 USB 3.0 is glorious, and the chicklet key board
responds very well, and looks great when matched against the matte black
finish. I should also point out that this thing runs QUIET. Even when
gaming, you hardly even notice that the fan is blowing hard. Cons: It runs
a little hot when gaming, but that's to be expected with such a thin
profile. 1366x768 is okay, but 1080p would have made this purchase even
better. The pixel density still remains nice and tight, though.
@MetalThrashinMad91 The battery life is AMAZING. I ride a bus into class at
about 6am, and it lasts most of the day until I leave at about 6:30pm. If i
switch the battery profile to "high performance" I can still get about 3-4
hours of battery life while gaming. I get comments CONSTANTLY pertaining to
how thin this thing is. Peoples jaw drop when i tell them it has an i5 and
a 310m. Mine shipped with a single stick of 4gbDDR3, so that leaves a slot
open for an upgrade to 8gb of RAM.
Just got mine a couple of weeks ago. Pros: Powerful. my buddy got his
N-series about a year ago, and can run BF3 on medium settings. The U36Jc
rivals his N-series. EXACT same processor, same amount of RAM. The hardware
is striking similar to his gaming laptop. The 310m dedicated graphics is
powerful enough to max most of the games I have tried to play on it. Skyrim
plays nicely at medium/high settings at its native resolution.
@MetalThrashinMad91 Over all, I haven't had a single problem with this. I
would make the purchase a hundred times over, and would recommend it to
anyone that wants a decent gaming machine that they can carry around
without killing themselves for a reasonable price. BUY THIS LAPTOP.
