I would never consider buying a gaming laptop because of a few factors:
1. Gaming laptops are generally heavy 7-10lbs.
2. Not as good performance as the desktop equivalent
3. Way too expensive and most of the time can not be upgraded much.
Like why spend $1500-3000 on a laptop that is heavy to carry and
unperformes compared to a desktop?
If I need to use my laptop, it will be for a portable purpose such as
typing up notes or web use. Not playing graphically intense games. I rather
use my desktop to play graphically intensive games.
+mclaine33 Well it depends doesn't it. We aren't all rich and we aren't all living in 1 home. I am currently switching between 3 homes because of certain issues with family, meaning I literally cannot have a desktop. Plus, It's hard for me to earn a lot of money, therefore I can't even get a laptop over £1,000. So I'm stuck with the best possible choice for a gaming laptop, by stats and price:Asus ROG gl551jw-ds71:16GB RAM1 TB HddGTX 960mi7 4720HQ Quad corefor £850.
what are the processor nicknames for the Intel processors? I know that the
3rd gen is Ivybridge, and that the 4th is Haswell, but what are the 5th and
6th generation cpus?
He guys im making a new pc and i want to know if it can run everything at
1080p with good fps (60 would be good)
Specs
i5 4670k
gtx 980
8gb corsair vengance ram
The laptop needs a new design. Could cpu/mobo/ram be replaced with a
specialized gpu kind of like AMD did with APUs? Reducing cost (because you
are manufacturing one board) and size. I guess the fail rate and would be
too high with everything on one component, raising price astronomically....
+Xipo86 You missed the point entirely. I'm talking about using the GPU as a CPU not the other way around. So you get a specialised 980 that has a storage controller and whatnot so the GPU is the whole laptop, getting rid of the CPU/mobo/ram. Seeing as how much more powerful a GPU is then a CPU.
Im doing my first custom PC build so i can finally leave apple for ever
(oddly relevant to the video), but can anyone recommend other replacement
part if you feel my current ones are a bit worse than others? And if all
possible, i would like it kept very close to the same price range. Here is
the link for my build: //pcpartpicker.com/p/cXBw23
+XxdonkeypantsxX350w quality psu is enough for this pc if you dont plan any upgrades soon.I personally would cut the win 10 home oem (ebay.com lists windows 7 64 bit for $6,50 --> free upgrade to win 10), and pick a cheaper psu, tower case but buy instead a more expensive graphics card.
+XxdonkeypantsxX Before i start, keep in mind iam NO pc expert. - Spending ~100 bucks on the operating system is a HUGE waste. I mean its 25% of the total price. Why dont you buy a windows 7 key and upgrade free to windows 10? I bought a windows 7 64 bit OEM key for 15 € on ebay and can now upgrade to windows 10 for free as all other windows 7/8 users. I recommend ebay because at least in my country its very cheap. And even if you get scammed one time its cheaper then buying windows 10 for $100. - I feel like the graphics card could be a bit stronger, because someone told to me that the graphics card should be ~25% of the total pc price as a rough estimation. You wont play for example newest ames on high/ultra settings with this card. I recommend a GTX960/r9 280x Spend the money here which you save on the windows 10 key. - Iam not sure if the HDD Hitachi is a well known quality brand. I personally prefer Seagate. - The pc case seems very unnecessary expensive for a $500 pc. You could save here too. - 500w psu seems fine if its a quality brand. Always buy a quality brand here because at worse it can start a fire. I personally would open a thread in a hardware forum. These people know much more about pcs then II cant say anything about the processor, mainboard and ram because i dont know enough about that.
I am new to pc gaming. I have an AMD A8-6500 APU With Radeon(tm) HD
Graphics 3.50GHz. Since I have an APU which means, the graphics card is
installed on the cpu right? What will happen if I put a GTX 750ti in my
computer? Will it interfear with my APU? Also I am scared about getting
viruses and malware. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can
avoid viruses and malware? Last question, how do I play my games in HD? I
do not have a 1080p monitor and my pc does not have an HDMI port. In order
to play in HD wouldn't I need a 1080p monitor and a new motherboard with an
HDMI port?
+logan fields 1. The addition of a discrete graphics card will take the graphic load from the APU completely. But there are important questions before buying. Does your mainboard have an empty PCI-Ex16 slot? Is your power supply strong enough to handle an extra graphics card (how much watt)? Is your cpu strong enough to handle a graphics card or will he be the bottleneck? You can not just buy a graphics card and add it to your mainboard. It might not work.... 2. You dont have to be so afraid about virus/malware if you handle your pc propperly and scan your pc every few weeks. Iam using a PC since ~10 years and had serveral malware/virus problems but most of them was my own fault. Took sime time to clean my system but it wasnt a huge problem. 3. Yes you need a HD monitor to play in full HD which means 1080p resolution. But you most likely need a graphics card for this and they will all support HDMI, DVI for your HD monitor. For example my 24 zoll LED monitor uses a DVI port on my graphics card.
This is our video review of the MSI GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4G Graphics Card. Based on the Nvidia new GeForce GTX 980 reference card. Using the the new ...
+Pham Phuc on the assumption that you haven't touched the default settings then the fans only kick in when the gpu hits 60. You can adjust the fan settings so they kick in at a lower temperature and hopefully your temps will be much lower.
+Chris T Thanks buddy, We're glad you liked it. We've got our first 4K monitor review coming up in the next couple of days so make sure you follow us on twitter or subscribe to us and change your preferences so you are notified when we upload that video.
+Xetion It is a Non reference PCB. Only the lower type models like NVIDIA stock models have reference PCB. If you are going to stick a waterblock on it, you can go to EKWB's website and check the configurator for compatible blocks (which there are many as MSI send their PCBs to EK to design blocks for their cards).
+Mayan Patel on some games it will beat a 970 but not the 980.the 980 is about 10% faster.I have seen a few overclocked 970's keep up with a 780ti.unless you know how to overclock a GPU, definitely go for the fastest card out of the box. MSI makes real good cards and so does EVGA and ASUS.
+Ike2030 How's the async compute bottleneck ? Is the V Ram legit ? 28 nm seem's like a waist compared to 16 nm in a few month's. 1080 P ? Even a Titan can't max out all games at 144 hz 1080.
+Randall Donadio That's kind of you to say -- thanks so much! Even if we don't always respond to all the comments, I try to read all of them on new videos, so I appreciate you taking the time to post. ^SB
Ok, so I have a complete setup for $2500 dollars with the GTX 970, or would
200 bucks more be more worth it for the 980Ti? I probably wont be playing
too intensive games, and I want a card that can last me at least two years.
+You 980 TI wont even run all games max at 1080p 144hz now. How's the async compute bottleneck ? Is the V Ram legit ? 28 nm seem's like a waist compared to 16 nm in a few month's. 1080 P ? Even a Titan can't max out all games at 144 hz 1080.
+Alkemyst Bones yeah, thank you, I did; I am pretty sure most of those will run decently, and my list has thinned out, so... Also, I had to compromise again... This might be the rig I have to settle with (may upgrade in the future if I get to even build this: //pcpartpicker.com/p/g3qwf7 How's it?
+You why wont you just look it up? Im sure most of these games have been put on youtube with that card. And its not just your gpu that dictates the ability, its a combination of youre entire system. Cpu plays a major part, how much of your cpu is being used up in background processes, if some of your cores are parked ect. If you are really bent on gaming you should also look up a "optimize windows _ for gaming" video, since im assuming that you dont know what you are really looking for.
SO the games I plan to play are:LEGO WorldsLEGO Minifigures OnlineBatman: Arkham KnightThe CrewLEGO Marvel SuperheroesAssassin's Creed: Black FlagLEGO Jurrassic ParkGRID2How would a 960 handle these at high/ultra?
+Alkemyst Bones "What are you doing, playing in a desert?" Pretty much... here in the central valley in California it gets pretty dang hot and we don't have a central A/C unit yet, just swamp cooler - plus I like to keep my stuff cool. As to the sound card: I like the extra sound, and I though I heard that that MOBO doesn't have good sound, IDK. The Wireless adapter, well, we don't have ethernet stuff and the place I want to put it (little desk near my room) has an ethernet port but it doesn't work... and also, I believe I have to settle already. Because like I said, when my parents saw the price they were like, NO WAY. Even the cheapened version is still "too expensive" so.... thanks for your help!! :D
+NoNameUser //pcpartpicker.com/p/k4wMQ7 is my build. If you look at the benchmarks for your memory, the Crucial Ballistix Elite 4G are better, and i would seriously consider getting a EVGA 980ti. If you are trying to drop the price, honestly it cant be avoided with your 4 extra case fans, the wireless adapter (which, i would not run your pc on wireless btw) Your monitor complete with soundcard (which i think is useless) mouse, keyboard, headset and speakers. Really depends on you, but i would seriously try to make things more basic. That whole cooling setup you got is not really needed, especially if you get a 980 card, ESPECIALLY if you get an EVGA because they tend to put an extra fan on it. Your cpu is water cooled, what the hell are you doing playing in a desert? Anyways, goto pc partpicker goto complete builds, and set your price, change peices accordingly, hopefully that helps you out a bit.
ditch the sound card, you really don't need one, especially with that motherboard. Also get rid of those speakers if you have anything at home, its not a lot but can still save you some $$ and ou don't need them
Sorry, I deleted that because when dad saw the price he was all like,@.@ so I had to chang it - it is now $1800 with a GTX 960 (full setup) or $1900 - $2000 with a 970. It was $2500 bucks because I had a i7-5820k and an X99 build. :)
+NoNameUser Can you link your build on pcpartpicker because $2500 with only a 970? I actually have a 970 and my build is about $1200. Lastly i don't know how long the 970 will last because of its whole 3.5 gbs of vram thing but that really depends on how fast games are going to evolve so if you really wanted to be safe a 980ti would probably last you a lot longer.
+NoNameUser Im seriously confused how you are spending 2500$ and you only have a 970 in it.... //pcpartpicker.com/p/pwMJD3 this is exactly what i have, with headsets, monitors ect (missing power supply and drive) and its at 2600$....ur doing something wrong.
Hate my strix.. fans are vibrating when they kick on.. heatsink is not on
the card very secure at all.. kinda loose and noticed this on a couple
models.
Low FPS with GTX 980 Strix :(... help plz:

is the problem with my RAM ?? shall i use the quad channel ( 4x4 ) so the
problem be solved ?
btw, this happens with a lot of games.
appreciate ur response and advise.
+Ivan Lee sry to hear that .. after a lot of researches and benchmarks .. i noticed that it was only the optimization ... everythings sets fine after many games and nvidea updates ... though .. i switched now to a reference gtx980 ti and happy with the performance.in ur case ... try to benchmark and see the temp of the card. if u have any heatsink issues ... it shall be noticed through temp.
Ameen, that's sad... As Muslims we shouldn't for full our own desires but instead give charity to the people who can't afford to eat and sleepy empty stomach every night. However... I have a feeling it's your power supply.1000 is an over kill and having a card with over kill of watts can really hear up and affect the performance of your card.
