Nice song Guy...actually, I had never heard this song. My late nephew and I
used to sit around the house listening to a variety of music from American
country, rock, R & B, standard classics and much more but this song seems
new to me because I do not not recall hearing it. Anyway...5 stars my
friend for bringing to me a song that I SHOULD have known but did not.
Peace!!
@MrJackGrayson I'm fairly certain this was a UK recording - a Tony McCaulay
song I think, and very much in the Pop-Soul style of the Foundations et.al.
Quietly re-issued in 1971 but with no pop-chart placing as I recall.
I have to agree with the Mercyful Fate comparisons. The music here is very
reminiscent of them. Vocally, the Megadeth comparison makes sense. He does
sound a little like a young Mustaine, though not as nasally.
+Sean Mageean Better still Sean, they could have drafted in Manfred Mann and the three could have performed 'MY NAME IS JACK MY FRIEND, HAPPY JACK'.. As for these Beat Club gems from the sixties - they are bloody brilliant... Thankyou to the providers.
Kein Krieg in meiner Welt. Nur alles neu. Heute Rentner und immer noch happy. Alles erlebt. Vom Holzlöffel bis zum Tablett PC einfach nicht zu fassen . Geil, das würde ich immer wieder genauso haben wollen! Jimi ist tot, es lebe jimi Hendrix
Loved to see The Smoke performing "My Friend Jack"! Number one in Germany,
banned in England after one week, due to LSD references - only reached
number 50 in the charts before being banned. Still got the UK single
release in my collection!
Hi Mel,The Smoke had four members, two from London and two from Germany. In recent years at least two compilation CD's have been released, which are full of great 60,s psych, together with good band history. I would thoroughly recommend a listen!
This is pure gold, Hendrix Experience and The Who playing live at the
Marquee. So cool to hear Dave Lee Travis refer to The Who as the most
controversial band in England. Man, I so wish that I had lived in those
times.
+PAULLONDEN Hahaha, I see what you mean about Dave Travis, he comes off like a tool. I kinda agree with you, The Pretty Things are really great, just recently been getting into them. I guess The Who were considered controversial because they smashed their gear, idunno. Cheers.
+J. Dovales "the most controversial band in England" ? So much DJ babble...If there was such a band, it most probably were The Rolling Stones, or The Pretty Things.... The Who were amazing ofcourse, but I was 16 at the time , and can't remember for what the Who might have been controversial , other than smashing up their gear now & then. That Dave Travis was somewhat of a caveman anyway..
