+80s Guy how others learn languages, retain languages, is up to the individual. first, Sri Devi could be totally joking, making fun of her daughter. chill out. it's not that big of an issue.

The mother (a public figure of India) telling the media that her daughter does not speak Hindi and only speaks English when in fact the girl speaks broken English (Hinglish) with a really 'desi' accent. From what I know the lady is South Indian, don't know what her mother-tongue is and her husband is Punjabi which comes to a conclusion that they speak Hindi to 'communicate' during their relationship, then throughout their marriage, and ultimately raising their two kids speaking the same. So what are we to believe? That the kids automatically does not know how to speak Hindi when in fact they are Indian, born, raised, schooled in India? So Indian schools don't teach Indian languages and their television and movies are all spoken in English? The dumbest uneducated person would still know how to speak Hindi even though 'IF' they are not Indian and have brought up in the environment. Kalki Koechlin, the French girl/actress and Sonia Gandhi (full-blooded Italian) both currently lives and works in India and they spoke perfect Hindi. Maybe these girls and their hideous mother should spend less time pretending to be like the (American) Kardashians.

+80s Guy holy shit. chill out. i said 'maybe?'. as in she could be just surrounded by those who speak English only. who fuckin' knows? if your environment is just that; english only; then so be it. not the end of the world. doesn't make you 'stupid'. doesn't make you uneducated. if anything, if she not speaking hindi or tamil as her parents' mother toungues are... blame the parents. they either didn't speak in front of her throughout her childhood in one language or the other, or they didn't teach it.

If you are born and raised in your own country then you should be able to speak the language, not a foreign language like English and (pretending) to not knowing how to speak your own language (whatever that might be of the many dialects). Even the dumbest uneducated person will know how to work his/her native tongue. You're giving a sad and pathetic excuse.
