Being curious, I just tried to make a 50/50 using some vermouth that was in
my frig for awhile -- since I first tried to make a 50/50. It was
unpalatable.
Oh well, I used the rest of the old vermouth in a recipe for poaching
salmon.
in my experience the newer the better, and this is especially true for vermouth heavy ratio recipes. i'm assuming this is a martini being on the martini video? I've found that dry vermouth seems to show its age sooner than sweet vermouth.
+Small Screen one time at the heaven hill distillery in Kentucky the tour guide told us that once a bottle of bourbon (or any other spirit?) is opened it has a shelf life of about 1 year. just marketing or is there some truth?
EoFisherman,Spirits and liqueurs should essentially last forever. There is no need to refrigerate them. That being said, in some cases it could be necessary to refrigerate a liqueur depending on the level of alcohol within. Thank you for watching!
some, they're a bit sweeter than a dry vermouth though, as would be the same with other 'blanc' brands. i think i got it to make a vesper or other such drink. However, some recent schools of thought say that the vesper should use cocchi americano, as it's closer to the original lillet in taste
Cocchi Americano, and other such products which are aromatized/fortified wines are all going to be subject to oxidation, and so should be kept in the fridge, and not kept too long. It's not that they will make you sick or anything, just that as time progresses their flavor will change and your drinks will suffer.
