YDL 6.1, PS3 ( blackborder/overscan ) tutorial part 2/8
This guide is for YDL 6.1 if your running YDL 6.0 or previous, This guide will not work for you, Unless you update your kernel to atleast kernel-2.6.24 or later.
That works but it also reverts the ps3 back to factory default settings.
You have to go through the resolution settings and stuff again etc. Best
way back to the game os is to go to the start menu, Then applications and
then boot-game-os.
i mean turn it off completely by the button behind the ps3 and then press
it again to turn it on. Then press the touch power button (the normal one)
for the two bbebs.
im stuck at typing in "fbset" when i type in "fbset" nothing happens, but
when i watch the video there seem to be alot more you typed in, what am i
missing?
press the switch button behind the ps3 and they hold the power button for 5
seconds (2 beebs) and then it should boot into the ps3 system

[How-to] Fix Overscan on Your TV
I demonstrate how to enter the service menu on my Panasonic CRT TV and adjust for overscan. The basics apply to any TV. The procedure tends to be the same ...
Nice video and tv.
I recently got my hands on a Sony kv36fv310 with matching stand from ebay.
My NES, SNES and N64 all look beautiful.
I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to get every game on
every system to fit the tv appropriately. For example, I have thin black
bars at the top and bottom for banjo kazooie. If I go into the service menu
to adjust the overscan, then the texts and icons for other games, say Super
Mario 64, gets cut off.
Thanks in advanced to anyone who responds.
+Playongo Thanks for the reply bro.Yeah, after doing some more research about overscan, it seems that some games will have different safe zones and spill over areas as determined by the developers. It's funny, Goldeneye, a Rare title, fills up the entire screen nicely while Banjo Kazooie, also made by Rare, does not. It's not a big deal though, comes with the CRT territory. Lol, one can go crazy trying to get every image perfect. Also, as a kid, I never focused on scanlines and overscan limits, it was all we knew. Now that we have displays with 1:1 pixel mapping, it becomes very obvious on crt's. Best regards.
+NeuronsAtWork I'm going to say that I don't think there's a spot that will work for all games. all TV signals should be made with overscan in mind, and provide some additional "spill over" so you never have that issue like you're having with Banjo Kazooie. I think the reality is that it's just going to vary on some games.
Damn! I gotta to try this on my old Sony crt tv, not sure if is possible
but i will give it a go, since some games i had that problem specially with
480i games (its a pal tv)
Actually i always wonder why this kinda stuff was "hidden" to normal users
because every computer crt monitor you could adjust the over scan and such
things without using this crazy codes ahah
And btw i think people get rid of their crt just because they take a lot
space and i kinda understand it , but crt image it's perfect for retro
stuff, but i gotta say Scanline filters on pc emulators have become really
nice and almost and authentic
Yeah like i said computers crt monitors had that option , Svideo its okay, but we europeans have the master race Scart a.k.a. RGB ahah :D , i still didn't tested because need to find my tv remote tho, and I can't find it which is bad XD
+Outdated Gamer Let me know how it goes! I have a video coming up about TVs that you might be interested in too. I'm really glad I've been able to get a couple 20" crt TVs with s-video in. I think it's the best for older games. It is weird that these settings are so hidden, though I guess some of the service settings could wreck the TV, it doesn't seem like the width and height would be a bad thing to encourage users to adjust.
i had similar problem on an LCD, when playing out-of-region games on the
wii, (Japanese arcsystem soft games, in particular) , it would overscan and
I couldn't see the hp bar and whatnot that's on the top....
+DungeonRPG Glad you got something out of this. I think this applies slightly differently to LCDs since the pixels are fixed, but from what I understand they can still overscan, and may have adjustable settings.
Man I've got an issue currently with my flatscreen..Recently I got a
wireless keyboard & do pretty much everything online on my TV through HDMI
from my laptop now, but no matter what I try the picture doesn't fit the
screen all the way there's a black border all around about 1". I was
certain it did fit when I 1st started doing it, but I don't know WTH is up
lol...I love having all my systems set up on it, I have an 8-way switch box
now that i just press the corresponding button for each console instead of
disconnecting/reconnecting =)..but I agree most of them weren't meant for
HD sets & some, espec Genesis, Super NES & NES look better on CRT...Have
you heard about the new HDMI modded NES tho?? Think I read it was coming
soon & was supposed to be able to produce a very great quality, I'm looking
forward to it & am glad I changed my mind about picking up a composite
modded NES 101 right away
+Playongo yea ill have to look into that..After trying numerous settings I read about I got frustrated & gave up ...Awesome to hear that, would still love to see more 7800 vids from you!. I now have all games except for Tank Command & Mean 18..Think I'll hold off for a while trying to pick those up tho..I debated it recently & thought NAH i'll just get my PS4 now...Just got it 2 days ago, currently taking an internet break from Wolfenstein: The New Order haha After all the hype I got Minecraft too...So far just did a little in tutorial mode, but seems I'll have some fun once I start going
+Stevaside Wow, HDMI NES mod? That's nuts! As for the PC hooked up to a modern TV, if you can find the native resolution of your TV and can set the PC to the same resolution, I'd expect the image to appear with no border. Not sure if that's a possibility for you or not. FYI: Speaking of mods, I was playing with my s-video modded 7800 and I think it's working for capture again. I'm able to balance the audio much better so I may do a 7800 video here sometime soon.
