For everyone who is confused on the bands genre, they're post punk with an
old school hardcore influence. Notice how the instrumental side is
comparable to that of Joy Division (Post-punk 1976-1980) and the vocals are
raspy and aggressive and highly comparable to hardcore punk. If hipsters
want to listen to this and label it "indie" (which is supposed to mean
indepent from a record label, not some stupid sound) then fine, at least it
is a band we punks can compromise on with you guys.
I wouldn't mind the vocals if this was actual hardcore, but face it,
they've strayed way too far from the genre to still be considered a part of
it. I mean, I like this song and his voice doesn't bother me THAT much, but
I'm having a hard time trying to listen to the whole album because the fact
that he's screaming all the time makes every song sound the same.
@christietotheanna I have to disagree personally. I think his vocal style
gives the otherwise calming music a nice edge. I think it sounds great and
its a pretty creative and unexpected combo, although I understand that a
lot of people don't really like the sound of screaming vocals. But hey, who
says they even want to appeal to a large audience.
Last time I saw Fucked Up, they were opening for the Cro-Mags. Damian gave
me a hug after the bouncers pushed me and then he poured a water bottle
over my face and in my mouth. He's such a nice, funny guy. Time before that
was with Dino Jr. and Damian gave me a hug and thanked for singing with him
haha. I love that dude.
@studiohry Thats a load of shit. You can try to like music. You find all
the good points in it and weigh it up against the bad points. Then you keep
trying to search for good points. Therefore you can try to like music. And
don't call people idiots because they believe in something you don't. Idiot.
@jessikt So you're saying you base whether you actually like a track or not
on who it's by? I heard this really sweet tune the other day, but then I
checked and it turned out it was by R.E.M. and seeing as everybody knows
who they are and loads of people like them I decided I hated it.
They're hella nice people. My friends and I saw them back in like 2011 or
something, and my friend lost his shirt during their set, so Damien Abraham
literally gave my friend the shirt off his back after the show. Still have
the shirt to this day.
Look.. maybe I don't get modern advertising, but I don't think that an ad
for a diamond ring fits this video. Just saying hire me for your marketing.
Also the irony of posting this for this song is funny!!!!!!!1111111111
@dontcareyourestupid I felt the exact same when I first listened to
Chemistry of Modern Life. The screaming has definitely grown on me and I
hope it does for you as well. Fucked Up is so incredible when you get into
it.
I think this song would be much more successful if they changed the
vocals... I feel like his gravelly, Foo Fighters-ish gravelly voice doesn't
suit their sweet guitars and melodic accompaniment? Just an opinion...
So are these guys like a screamo revival band or something? I mean, real
screamo hasn't been around for like a decade, if not longer. It would make
chronological sense that "post screamo" begins now, right?
@cocksuckermichael he's the nicest guy alive and if you punched him he'd
give you a deep talk on the importance of peace, give you a big hug and
then you would go dedicate your life to peaceful activism.
I heard this on MTV today i dont usually watch mtv cuz i hate the music
they play but im happy i watched it today or else i wouldnt know about this
fucken dope band! :D this is some trippy shit!
This album is masterpiece, with all due respect to Husker Du-Zen Arcade but
this is the best concept hard rock album i ever heard. Sure i don't
considering albums like The Wall as hard rock.
I normally would hate his voice because I don't really dig hardcore. I love
post-hardcore and hardcore punk, with that said. This band is so great I
don't care and he has great energy!
@mickinson Nah I just meant finding out that the really cool song that was
playing on the radio was the new single from Fucked Up, who I already love,
made it all the more awesome. :)
@asdf331331 They don't consider themselves as a part of the genre anymore.
You should watch the video that goes along with this album
(watch?v=3dYWof3QZbQ&feature=related).
Fucked Up perform every track from David Comes To Life in the round at West Village venue Le Poisson Rouge. Director: RJ Bentler Editor: Winston Case ...
Should really go see this band a second time. I only saw like half their
show the first time;at the end the lead singer just joined the mosh-pit &
at the end walked away to get a beer or whatever - he came back like 20
minutes later when the other band was setting up their stuff. Fucking loved
the guys ever since.
I love all the judgement, hipster, not hardcore, like it makes some kind of
difference. I guess it makes some feel better, like they are the hardest
done by on the planet. If you have the power to make comments on utube you
are way better off than most.
so bored by all those "its not hardcore" or "hipsters shit" punk hardcore
is about doing what you wanna do , feeling free , fuck conformism not
ripping off some slayer riffs 30 years late and expose your virility////
fucked up rules
@mikem1234 Not really, I'm just getting into these guys. Any suggestions on
some songs? I"m just kinda skeptical when punk bands have 3 guitarists but
I'll def have to check out their albums because I bet they make it sound
cool
site the term "one of". No Warning had a huge impact on the general content
of hardcore in the early 2000's which cant be denied. Things would be much
different right now if they hadn't come around when they did.
What makes this fucking amazing, is the fact that a hardcore punk/alt band
named Fucked Up is playing in a huge public venue. Canada has their shit
together with freedom and free speech. Just Bravo!
I think they're brilliant; if you don't like how Damien sings, go listen to
Green Day. David Comes to Life is an excellent album. Not sure why he
always has to be half naked though.
I love that there's still room for a fun hardcore band to be a big deal in
Canada, even around all this hipster scene garbage. I'm pretty sure even
Hipsters like Fucked Up.
My girlfriend told me this band is so hardcore it beats black flag, the
cirlce jerks, gorilla biscuit, and the FU's. I broke up with her after I
seen this.
