I'm surprised she didn't mention what really put a nail in Atari's coffin.
(Corporate stupidity.) The short version of the story is that certain
dumb powers in Atari didn't think the video game market was there
anymore. And they delayed the release of the Atari 7800. (Which really
wasn't such a bad system at all.) But during this delay, Nintendo pretty
much devoured the (still there) market. And FINALLY Atari got the idea to
release the Atari 7800. But it was too late. While the A7800 had 2 years of
decent success, it found itself fighting with Sega over the few small
scraps of the market Nintendo left.
Another thing she could have said was that while the Jaguar was impressive,
it was too far ahead of its time, and a lot of people weren't ready at the
time to make games of that memory capacity. Sure. The Jaguar had a FEW hit
games such as "Dune," "Alien vs Predator," "Wolfenstein," and "Tempest
2000." But these few games couldn't keep the Jaguar alive forever.
Atari Jaguar - Fight For Life : Failed Battle Against Junior
Ahh... I love this game! Great controls etc. I like how opponent dodges my every move... great challenge. Especially I love how theres no continues in the last ...
yes, there was only one programer for thiis game and he also worked on the
original virtua fighter. Atari purposely moddeld this game off of virtua
fighter to cash in on its succes.
Hey Atari Jaguar fans! This is episode 2 of the Atari Jaguar review! This episode will tell you the history of Atari and show you why the Atari Jaguar failed!
+cameron smith I admit since this video I have looked at certain reviews of ET and it's not a bad game especially considering how fast it was made but you really needed to look at the manual to understand the game so the game did have problems and Atari not only made way to many copies but failed to show gamer's how to properly play the game!
Your viewership is appreciated and you should check out the rest of the Jaguar video's!
Failed Consoles - Part One
From the Atari 5200 and the ill fated Nintendo Virtual Boy to the Atari Jaguar and the poorly timed Sega CD, the trashcans of the past were stuffed with consoles ...
+Dialectic FoxIn North America people only cared about the NES sadly at the time. Master System was good though for it's Sega charm. Brazil and Europe must have loved that thing. Shame that people on remember the Mega-Drive/Genesis if your American. Plus the Japanese only seemed to care about the Dreamcast and Saturn. It feels strange. It probably is the longest running console next to the Atari 2600 and Playstation2.
+bulaiaThat depends, If you lived in Brazil or Europe. Then the Master System was successful. However in North America and Japan it failed to stand up against the NES/Famicom sadly.
Well then, calling a current gen console "failed" is a pretty stupid thing to do, isn't it? Plenty of great consoles didn't sell tremendous at first. Look at DS and 3DS. Dreamcast sold more after it was officially cancelled, and still has a fairly vehement, undeservedly large group of weirdos all gushy and squirty for it. The thing about all this stuff is that this isn't the war of the old days, where you have your losers like 3DO, Jaguar, and Atari 7800. The big three consoles (PS4, XBONE, and Wii U) and PC all have some great games. There may be more games for certain types of people on one platform or another, but by and large any gamer can find some games to play on any major console. Some truly great ones, even. You don't have stuff with %100 unsupported loser libraries like 32X or Virtua Boy. So, the whole argument is frivolous, if you ask me. Which you didn't, but it's YouTube so ima tell it anyways.
+leadbones Hadn't come out yet when the video was made.
