DESTINY (Playstation 4 Edition) PVP Part 01 - Crucible (Il Crogiolo) - CONTROL (CONTROLLO)
PS1 versus Saturn: Mass Destruction
A comparison of the two versions of Mass Destruction; one on Saturn and one on Playstation. Each will get its own rating using the same parameters I use for ...
The Saturn version came out a couple months later than the PS1. Most likely
they were developed simultaneously. One of the coders who worked on both
games said that the Saturn had some kind of custom ability built in that
made it easier to create this particular type of game. Because of that,
they were able to achieve 60 fps, while they could only achieve 30 fps on
the PS1 version. So the Saturn one runs smoother. This info comes from
realcatgirllover, a Youtuber who has a gameplay video of it.
The coder was talking about VDP2. Basically the Saturn had VDP2 which was a
background generator that could give you 4 or 5 scrolling 2D backgrounds
and 2 rotational planes (mode 7 style floors) essentially for free without
affecting polygon performance. So on the Saturn they used a VDP2 floor for
the bulk of the terrain and only used polygons for the actual 3D structures.
I read this was just released on PSN, I wonder how the jittery motion will
be on a PSP? I loved this game on the Sega Saturn but I never owned a PS1.
This answers some questions I had. I suppose I will buy it though I would
rather have the Saturn version I played back in the day.
I wasn't aware that it was hitting PSN, but that's great. I imagine it will
look the same as it does in my video. Despite being slightly worse than the
Saturn version, I would still recommend it.
I had forgotten all about this game. I remember being blown away (pun
intended) by how much fun it was to play. It really surprised me. Great
video man!
You can't go wrong with a tank and stuff that blows up.

Carters Retro Reviews - Tempest 2000 / Sega Saturn
Sorry guys - this is a re-upload. One of my viewers pointed out that I fucked up and he is 100% right. And I can't sleep at night knowing a video I uploaded had ...
Problem with any port of Tempest is two-fold. First - the original game was
on a gorgeous colour vector monitor and that is pretty hard to recreate.
Modern consoles with HD output could do a decent job of emulating that but
the second problem is bigger - the original arcade game had a brilliant
spinner control which was effectively a weighted paddle and no modern
controller can come close. I played this game a lot in arcades - still - I
really liked T2K on the Saturn. It was the first version of T2K I played so
that has probably biased my view andc I have no idea how it compares to the
Jaguar version. I do know that the Saturn PAL version was unoptimised which
is a poor show. PS1 got Tempest X3 which is slightly different though I
hear that T2K is an unlockable mode in that game.
+davy K This is all so very true. I didn't even think about the Vector monitor but now you've said it, I bet it was tits on a Vector. I know what you mean about the paddle as well - I have seen pics of the original Tempest cabs but I still think the Saturn controls aren't as dog shit. I don't know what I said in this review whether they were garbage or not but I thought they were pretty solid with a controller.
Tempest in the arcades used a vector monitor. Which (if you played on a
vector monitor) was fantastic, so any port you just don;t the same quality
in video display.
Interesting, Striffy. I don't think I have ever played on a Vector monitor. I'd say something like, "I might have but I don't know..." but it sounds like something you'd never forget.
Its definitely harder then the jaguar version! But it does run at a way
smoother frame rate and looks a bit better then the Jaguar version. I can
run through the Jaguar version but this mother fucker is hard!!!!
I always did think it was pretty brutal. But I'm not sure if I was really that forward about the beatings I was getting in the game. I still felt like I got far in the game. Even if it wasn't.
