bad bushings on the lower A arm of my 2001 4Runner
I uploaded this as a supplement to some info on replacing the lower A arm bushings on a 3rd gen 4Runner. Update 03/13/14. The Toyota OEM bushings tore ...
Was that causing you runner to shift one side when you let off the gas? I
have a 3rd gen runner also, while I accelerate i can feel the whole thing
moves and feel like its try's to drive straight and when I let off the gas
it shifts to the passenger. My only guess is either upper or lower control
arm???
It didn't notice a pull when letting off the gas. It was scary at highway speeds on the mountain curves when I had to brake hard. It would pull to the driver's side while braking and then because I compensated the steering would feel like it would pull to the passenger side when letting off the brakes. I had to replace the lower A arm bushings again because the Toyota OEM bushings failed again. Too much flex from wheeling I'm thinking. When I did the initial replacements I added a generous amount of antiseize on the parts and thankfully it seemed to help. If nothing else it didn't make it rust worse before taking it apart to put the polys in. On reassembly used a water resistant synthetic grease. I think it will resist the water/rust better than the antiseize. You might also want to check your bushings in your rear upper and lower control arms. I put in new custom arms for the rear uppers and am still deciding on what do to about the rear lowers. Oh and it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the bushings in your panhard bar too. That could also cause the pull.
