This is a first hearing for me. If I do nothing else I will repeat it.
Further comment would be premature and without much thought/process. I
will add that I am thoroughly enjoying this work; the performance and
production are top quality imo. I join with others who are finding first
rate modern symphonies unheard in the usual venues. I have some dozen or
more names and forces new to me that i am returning to often. Let me plug
Naxos for making so many available to us. I tip my hat also to Amazon's
Discussion Group "What are you listening to now?"
"Allow me, in all modesty to make you aware that this channel offers a
fairly nice variety of various Danish composers." And most welcome it is.
This is the very first time I have heard this composer in my life. Nobody
bothers to play these composers on classical music radio stations. And
being retired (age 68) I cannot afford the CDs. I intend to spend the rest
of this Sunday afternoon (29 September) on this channel.
It's not being supprressed any more . Record companies like Chandos , CPO
, and others have been recording prodigious amounts of long-neglected music
by so many rarely performed but interesting composers . They're not all
"great" works, but it's great to have them available on CD !
It is not so much supression as self preservation. The general public sees
Mozart or Beethoven on the program and they buy tickets. If the name is not
familiar, they don't fill the seats. Sad, but true.
Good observation, and true enough, but it should be mentioned that it is
indeed a highly qualified based teenager swinging baton here, I dare not
compare with today's teenagers.
How old was he when he wrote this? Are you kidding me? This is a major +
work, the equal of all too many familiar names and better than many. Must
rehear.
Yes it is very beautiful, and I can tell you, as an example, the new
organist at the local church here in fact often use Rued Langgaard's motets
at Sunday worship services and she is a new generation, with more
open-minded notions of music, which is something that has been underway for
some time now, so I think finally it seems that his music begins to get the
use the way it deserves.
This is just heavenly, what else can I say? Sublime, thank you for making
it available, it seems so appropriate for this time of year too :)

The music is extremely daring and experimental for something that is
written in 1917 (including "special effects" such as striking the lid of
the piano with the knuckles and glissandos on the strings) but even the
amusing variety show of mr. Hammer cannot quite hide the fact that it all
sounds outdated, with not enough musical substance to really impress.
Yes it also is an interesting church, very old. Rued Langaard was not
recognized merit in his lifetime, partly because of ignorant music critics
and music experts were more interested in the composer Carl Nielsen. It is
much better today and all Rued Langaards music is released and played
regularly
thank you! This is so marvellous music! Two days ago, I saw Rued Langgaards
organ in Ribe Domkirke, I wonder why the danish people could forgot this
great musician!
