Ayy I was a Civil Air Patrol Cadet for 7 years and served in the Army for 4 years! The story told had some errors in it, ground team members must be at least 16 years old, and Flight Leaders are Cadet officers Ages 15-21 who are in leadership positions at the squadron level not used in Field settings. I was sent all over the Country Alaska to Texas to Nevada to Pennsylvania, served in Ground Team, as a Ground Team Leader which is what the 40 year old Army Vet was. And the training missions he is referring to is called a SAREX, Search and Rescue Exercise. Fun fact the Civil Air Patrol is the U.S Air Force Auxiliary. Founded as the Civil Air Defense during World War 2 tasked with patroling the US coast lines from the Air looking for German U Boats, in my home state of New Jersey alone Civil Air Patrol sunk 2 German U Boats and 1 whale lmao. Now we in CAP perform Emergency Services for FEMA, The Air Force, DHS, National Guard, State Police, and the FAA.
