Just moved into a rental newer modular and have the Intertherm gas furnace.
There is a very loud clicking noise when the gas valve is open. After the
flame is gone the noise shuts off. They cut and re-connected the hose that
holds moisture because it was crimped. The noise is less loud but still
happening. Do you think it may take a few days to blow out whatever
sediment might have been in there or to clear that hose. It's been less
than 24 hours since they did that maneuver? Give it time? Can you think of
anything else it could be. The noise is coming from the gas valve itself!
Thank you, Judy
Yes indeed it is the gas valve clicking on and off but not normally. The loud clicking is so loud we can't leave it on and it turns off then on, off then on not normally! It's ok we just simply aren't going to use it anymore and use our infrared heaters which are way more economical! There has been four service calls on this heater and no one can figure out what's wrong! Thanks for responding!
i have a furnace in a mobile home that is not heating the home properly. it
is a nordyne intertherm m1mc which looks exactly like the one in this
video. the blower comes on, the combustion chamber lights and i can see a
flame in it. not sure why the air coming from the ducts is room
temperature. does anyone know what the problem might be. was considering
getting a new furnace since this one is 10 years old. but if it is a simple
fix i want to fix it. all thoughts and recommendations are welcome. should
i get it fixed or replace it. the house is a 14 foot by 66 foot mobile
home. im fairly capable of fixing things myself. but this has me stumped.
i am so thankful that you responded and told me to do this. i have talked to so many "experts" and they have had me try so many things to no avail. but this is exactly what needed to be done. the orfice was almost completely clogged. i cleaned it out and now we have heat again. thank you so much my friend!!
So the flame may not be as big as it should be and the gas orfice going into the furnace from the gas valve may need to be cleaned. I would start there.
+serafin arizmendi - I have had similar problem. One problem that will cause short cycling is the location of the room thermostat. If there is a draft or air flow blowing across your room thermostat this will cause the temperature sensor to cool down too fast and cause the furnace to restart, the room gets warm then furnace shuts off then within 2-3 minutes the furnace cycle restarts. To verify this take a single sheet of toilet tissue and tape it to the bottom of the thermostat allowing it to hang downward. Stand back a few feet and be very still. Observe the tissue if it is moving then there is a draft or breeze blowing on the thermostat. The solution is to relocate the thermostat so that there is no draft blowing on it but it senses the temp of the room. In some cases it is difficult to relocate the thermostat. In that case a wireless thermostat can be used the base unit RF receiver attaches to the old thermostat location wires and the wireless RF thermostat can be positioned anywhere. Typically the thermostat is no higher than 60" no lower than 48" off the floor, also, closer to wall corners than 1' as this is a dead air space area for good temperature sensing. Hope this is of help to you. and good luck.
+serafin arizmendi Please watch my latest video as i explain all about the ignitor which also dubs as a flame sensor on this furnace. If you getting four flashes than it is not able to establish a flame and I would plan to replace the ignitor.
+Kathy Robbins Your hot surface ignitor also acts as the flame sensor and you cannot clean it. I am currently working on this same model gas furnace for a homeowner who has had this same issue since it was installed new back in 2009 !! I will let you know what I am come up with. I am a licensed HVAC contractor !!
