The technology for autonomous operation has been around for years. In the
late 80s early 90s, the US Army Field Artillery System TACFIRE (Tactical
Fire Control System) could theoretically be automated from the Forward
Observer (FO) calling the mission, firing solution determined, and the
solution straight to the guns through the Battery Computer System (BCS) by
simply pushing "To Guns" on the BCS. NOBODY DID IT for safety reasons and
to keep track of the tactical situation.Pplneed2Bintheloop.
It is funny knowing there is no pilot in the aircraft, but the hands
signals really only serve one purpose in this situation, let everyone else
know the plane is going to move. Last thing anyone wants to see is a
surprise glimpse of the exhaust as you stand up, not paying attention. Now
that would be something crazy to see. Luckily never saw it on my
deployments. Also, I wonder what it is the deck crew are wearing around
their waist and float coats.
Okay, so while on deck, there are two pilots with radio controls linking to
the X-47. Then, after the shot, I'm guessing controls are quickly passed to
a set of pilots somewhere in the ship or back on land? I can see a few
antennas hanging off the gear the pilots had on, so it's obvious they must
be near by to be able to control the aircraft. I need to read up on this
now. Congrats to the Navy on a historic event.
Okay, the US Navy posted a pic of these guys. The two men you see are
Grumman Tech controlling the aircraft. The thing on their mouths are the
microphone mouth piece. Sine they need to be able to speak clearly, but
have total use of their hands, the mics are pressed against their face,
blocking out the sounds of the jets. Other enlisted sailors have the same
style mouth piece, but hangs around their neck.
I see. It's kind of like how the Army wants to have a version of the MQ-8
for medevac operations. The MQ-8 would receive GPS cords, be launched,
arrive at the site. Soldiers would load the injured, take off any supplies
sent by the bird, then open a panel and flick a switch to "return" mode.
The MQ-8 would quickly RTB. It's a concept that I don't know took off yet
or has been abandoned.
So, in spite of the fact that this video has nothing to do with your topic
of ranting... You decide to rant about how we won't learn another language?
Then say that Russia will bomb everything and the Arabs are fucked? All
right. How about you leave yourself to earning something above the fucking
poverty line before you get involved in international politics, you beaner
piece of shit.
Anyone else find it ironically funny that the deck crew is giving hand
signals to a UAV? lol... Yeah yeah, I know the Alpha Deck Crewman is giving
them for protocol, and there's obviously the UCAS pilot nearby... Just
thought I'd still point out the humor in it ;)
A few questions. I know the guys @ 0:23 are controlling it on the the deck
but what is on there mouths? Im guessing theres a control unit either on
the ship or nearby. Im wonder ing how much lag there is between the ground
control and the UAV. Thanks.
Slow down racist people I know that America does stupid shit but no mexican
has the right to come and talk shit about their shity technology, on the
other hand no American has the right to make fun a language such as Spanish
It's got built in motion tracking system? Damn. Wonder what kind of cameras
it has to track daytime and night time and be able to distinguish between
hand signals in front of it and just behind the director.
The whole thing is kinda strange, a pilot a couple of hundred miles away,
in front of a computer with 3 monitors, is doing a carrier taken like he's
playing a video game. How much more impersonal can it get?
I'm assuming that the hand signals are for the two pilots @ 0:20 who seem
to be remotely controlling the UCAV on deck. I'm also guessing that there
are two controllers for redundancy if one fails.
there are pilots controlling the uav from the deck, they are the ones in
the flightsuits behind the flight marshall with the white controller on
their hip

Northrop Grumman - Two X-47B UCAS Completed Air Worthiness Test Phase [720p]
SAN DIEGO, June 14, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The first major phase of flight testing the X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System (UCAS) demonstrator ...
This is those UFOs in area 51. It would be nice that the commercial flights
use similar planes. These have to land flat. So landing in strong winds
would be hazardous.
