Cool man thanks for the song...i just watched a vid of Pete Townshend playing that same Gibson J200 (or it sure looked like it) beautiful guitar on his live version of Drowned, I think you would really like this version too PT. It would be great to see you play that same live version because there is some great guitar work on that song on stage he does. It was great to see Pete play that guitar that too. Thanks man.

Literally don't think I've heard this song since I was a pre-teen in 1975 running round the public swimming pool, with those bullhorn radio "speakers" blasting atop the concession stand ...weird how a long forgotten song can sound so instantly familiar after almost 4 decades and evoke such a vivid and specific memory.

I'm going to have to consider buying a J-200. That guitar is such a gem. Nice job as usual. I'm only a 5'4 female so I hesitate to have that big ole box guitar for myself but I'm sure I would enjoy it for years to come.

I've posted a lesson on how to play Pete's solo acoustic version of Drowned. Pete recorded all of the Who's post-1968 acoustic tracks using a J200. I believe in more recent years, he's been using his signature model.

The lyrics are sexually suggestive wordplay and quite simply talking about daytime love or having sex in the afternoon. The title came from the happy hour menu at Clyde's restaurant in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., where Bill Danoff was eating with fellow bandmember Margot Chapman while his then-wife Taffy Danoff was receiving surgery for cervical cancer. Danoff enjoyed writing the song and downplayed the somewhat controversial lyrics, saying, "I didn't want to write an all-out sex song ... I just wanted to write something that was fun and hinted at sex.
