Sand hill 4x4 driving demo in JK Jeep Wranglers
Sand hills in the new JK Jeep Wranglers. 4L is better. Lots of people try to say that 4H is better for sand, but only on LEVEL sand. You need the torque of 4L to ...
ive had 4x4's all my life and regardless, use 4H unless high torque is
needed to get the job done. any 4X4 vehicle can make it through almost
anything in 4H provided that the driver doesn't try anything stupid. a good
example of a person needing 4L however is a jeep pulling a heavy truck. 4H
is a wheeling gear,it allots for speed, something that when off road is ur
friend. u shouldn't be giving advice till ur more knowledgeable about off
roading. its called L for a reason, LOW SPEED HIGH TORQUE
Not to be rude but i find this video misleading. You can in fact use 4hi in
sand with no problem. The fact that you showed using 4hi with no momentum
but then used momentum with 4lo is comparing apples to oranges. Try the
same hill with momentum in 4hi ;) same results, less engine revs = a
happier wallet! Btw i can hear the tranny sizzling on that yellow jeep when
your sitting there holding it at rpm like that with slip.... Oh and TIRE
PRESSURE TIRE PRESSURE TIRE PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, some of the JK's come with a "TracLok" diff (which doesn't hold
up very long to serious offroad use, so we don't order that feature), but
what all JK's have standard (to which I believe you are referring) is the
Traction Control System which utilizes the ABS system to apply some braking
to the spinning wheels. I have found that this system only works well in
light-duty situations, and that manual left-foot braking is still a very
useful tool on the JK's. Video coming soon!
I agree that you can use 4H in sand, but not on hills, where you need the
torque. You don't have to worry about shredding anything in your driveline
in this situation with the wimpy JK motor. We edited out the "4H with
momentum" because the results were the same--on a sand HILL CLIMB, a JK
will bog down in 4H. You have to use 4L. Notice that the demo is titled "JK
Jeep Wranglers", and "hill"--two very specific situations. Thanks for the
mature and constructive input. Happy trails!
i think the problem here is that you had traction control on so when it
detected that all four wheels or at least two were spining it put the
brakes on those and lost power what you should do is take it off and allow
more power without brakes and let the tires spinn the reason why 4 lo
helped you is because 1 it has more power oviously and 2 because when you
shift to 4 lo it automatically takes traction controll off! and 3 you got
more momentum
@jeepschool your an idiot. i could have easily done the same thing in 4H.
4L is not a wheeling gear. its there for LOW SPEED AND HIGH TORQUE. i could
have done that in an F250 in 4H and never had any trouble. you and kamea22
are off roading idiots. ya'll need to go playing some more and stop dishing
out advice when you dont even know what your doing. oh and btw, when you
shred your transfer case or driveline hahahahaha
I only use 4H to climb sand hills, and extreme ones too, hell, I've even
climbed massive dunes with 2wd (check out my videos) the secret is: deflate
the tires down to -10 psi and use the 1st gear.. I know that automatic
4door JKs are kinda weak.. just watch my vids.
I have done things similar to this in my ZJ (in 4H) without much momentum.
I aired down my tires though. I guess the 3.8 packs much less punch than my
5.2 though. Nice video at any rate. I would love to pick up the new 3.6
wrangler.
haha, I remember my first beer, lol just kidding nice video and nice set of
Jeeps, I had to start somewhere and I started with a local Jeep group
(Houston Jeep People) and I'm still learning
I think you missed the point of the video--we agree that 4L is used to
4-wheel! :D We did this as a demo to show that 4H does NOT provide enough
power to climb a sand hill.
