Are you considering getting the X-pro2? It is weather resistant, better AF
(especially at night), video quality and includes a mic, although it is the
same mic input as the X-t1, but a mic input nonetheless.
Well I'm all for "if it aint broke..." so if your happy with your current setup, vid wise, it would be a shame to replace it and spend more cash, but I have seen some great arguments as to its vid capabilities, and ofc more than capable of making amazing photo's. If you do get it would you consider making a little youtube review?
+Monty Craig awesome! It's still my primary camera for my personal work. It's not the fastest at focusing or writing images, but I love the image quality and the way it handles skin texture and tone. It's a winner for sure. I'm curious about the X-Pro2 that is supposedly slated to be announced this month.
+Tony Cece I am a new user to an X Pro1 too, I have been using it for about a month now, and just this week passed my Nikon gear off to my daughter for when she goes off to collage . Love this camera, and while I may add to it down the road, I think this will be one that stays around for a long time.
Hi Chris, I'm still using the same camera systems personally. Typically for projects at work I use a Canon 5D Mk3 to do both video and photos. I did sell the Nikon 50mm f/1.2 because I got a Fuji 56mm f/1.2 and I added a Fuji 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 zoom lens (mentioned in the video). I primarily use the Sony for personal video projects and the Fuji X-pro1 for photography. I've looked at newer Fuji cameras and really like the XT1, but I'm holding out for an X-Pro2. It's been a long wait, but I'm hoping they announce one this year. I still love my X-Pro1 and hope they really improve on it for the next version.
I use a Sony NEX-5N as well. I used an adapter ring to attach a nikon
70-280mm and it's funny because it looks like i'm just holding a lens, the
camera is so small in comparison. Sadly... I took it on a shoot in a window
area, when I took the lens off, something happened and now the sony NEX
won't recognize any lens I attach. :(
I'm going to try and clean them - I tried blowing off any dirt. I think that might be it, as I can feel a grit/grind when the lens turns on the contacts. Possibly from dirt that was blowing in the air.
My decision to travel with mirrorless cameras.
Going completely mirrorless for my photo & video work has not been an easy
decision, but for my personally work I have been mirrorless for a year now.
Next week I am going to be going mirrorless on my first work trip.
Previously I’ve carried a Canon 5D Mark III as my primary camera and either
my Sony NEX 5-N or Fuji X-Pro 1 as my backup camera. Last week I tore a
muscle in my neck and was told not to carry a lot of weight on my neck or
shoulders. I’ve decided to leave the Canon behind so I can work lighter.
This trip will really let me see if these cameras are a feasible solution.
Having a newer model of either of these camera systems would make it easier
for me because they have microphone inputs, but honestly I only need great
audio for interviews and can get that with a lav hooked up to an audio
recorder. I carry the audio recorder with me regardless, so I’m not adding
any new gear to my workflow.
I can’t wait to see how mobile this will make me and the new possibilities
and creativity that will develop as a result.
I completely agree +Daniel Nienhuis. I've eyed the Panasonic as well, but find the micro four thirds sensor lacking a bit for the look I want to achieve with my photographs. It's great for video, but the smaller sensor handles optics differently - especially in the the f-stop range. An f/1.4 on a full frame vs APSC vs M43 have different DOF. I really notice it when I put the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 on my 5D vs the Sony or Fuji. Panasonic is definitely catering to the video crowd with their cameras and it is noticed. I follow a lot of video guys that use the Panasonic GH series. The nice thing about the Panasonic is that there are a lot of lenses available.I'm not quite sure why Sony didn't up the video to 4k in the A7 they just released? I would go the Sony route, but they are behind in supplying native lenses. They have a few E-mounts and now they have changed to full frame which means that there are even fewer lenses available to take advantage of the sensor unless you use adaptors and manual lenses. But I agree that Canon and Nikon need to start taking the mirrorless move more seriously. The Canon M didn't do very well and the new Nikon DF is large and overpriced. I'd switch completely to Fuji if they would give me manual video controls. I really like the X-Trans sensor.
Nice post, Tony – I know that a lot of pros are moving in this direction and it's great to hear your perspective on things. I've personally been keeping my eye on Panasonic's (still unreleased) 4K Lumix GH4. I know the GH2 and GH3 have been video favorites for a while and Panasonic seems to be really paying attention to the features that video shooters want (a decent codec, focus peaking, a headphone jack, etc.). I still love my Canon to death (I'm on a 60D), but I'm starting to think that the next time I upgrade, I'll be making it my b-cam and using something mirrorless as my primary. As Sony, Fuji, and Panasonic keep pushing mirrorless tech further, you have to wonder if Canon and Nikon will have to make some major changes to stay competitive.

DSLR Backpack and carbon fiber tripod video (budget travel setup)
Hey guys, I had a lot of questions regarding my Alaska trip and what gear I brought with me. I did use my backpack and tripod as my carry on / personal item, and ...
Hey thanks for stopping by! This is a great budget bag, the main
compartment being completely modular. Sony is on rocks financially and
things aren't looking great for their DSLR's and SLT's. They seem to be
putting their focus on the NEX cameras and E-mount lenses. I likely will
also be switching, just not anytime soon unless I get a financial windfall.
Nice review, thanks.. I shoot with Sony as well but am about to switch to
Canon. This bag looks like it'll be great for what I want it for, except
for the monopod straps, they seem weak.i have a smaller case logic bag now
where those straps are wide adjustable Velcro straps, I'll miss those if I
get this. Anyway, very helpful video, thanks.
Thanks, I like using the old Minolta stuff...but I am either going to get
newer lenses for the better lens coating, or leave Sony altogether due to
lack of cooperation with Adobe software, and lenses (they discontinued many
full frame lenses) and they seem to be in a lot of financial trouble as
well (selling off their subsidiary companies)
I've been considering this back pack but I am unsure if it is deep enough
for my 7D with the battery grip on it. I currently have the case logic
CPL-108GY and find that it's too shallow. Any insight would be great sir!
thank you.
The side strap is pretty small and made to hold a monopod in place, you
might be able to get away with strapping in a small tripod but it'll take
some creative work to make it happen.
