I have an issue with this song. Let me provide some background before I give my argument (an argument for the purpose of dialogue, not internet bickering). I am a young 20yr old Christian who rests in Reformed theology. I love Beautiful Eulogy and have been following Humble Beast actively even before Satellite Kites came out (their first album). I absolutely love what they are doing. I have a tiny background (community college) in philosophy in an academic sense. My problem is with an opening line from Odd Thomas. "Yup, this is a re-introduction plus some practical perspective For those of us indeed who are in need of complete vision correction The only thing that’s required is a lens that’s genuinely objective." From interviews, and by following Odd Thomas on social media, I know that he is by far a more wise and experienced individual then I am so maybe I'm taking the last line about an objective lense too seriously. You see, the word "objective" can concern facts & truth. Epistemologically, there is a difference between fact and truth, because facts just happen to retain some truth value, while actual *truths* are absolutely (a priori) and universally true. So this seems like a great time for Mr. Thomas to begin an apologetic argument maybe concerning things like: theories of truth (correspondence or coherence), presuppositional arguments concerning God, or evening something like Ravi Zacharias' argument of morality which says we can never talk about morality apart from the human so the one giving moral law needs to be a pretty worthy person of doing so and Jesus, since he is perfect, is the only one capable of doing so. Instead, Mr. Thomas at best says, "But morals, meaning and devotion, heart, mind and emotion Substance, significance and truth cannot be explained Or reduced to a big band explosion" which is true but is not much of argument for a *vital*, "objective lense." He then begins to talk about things of divine perception which is HUGE if we're staying in context of this objective lense. We know from Romans 1 (which he speaks of) that every man in his heart knows there is a God, but cannot recognize Him apart from His Word and the Holy Spirit revealing this truth to man in regeneration. Even Braille says, "we need the Spirit And the Word to open our eyes so we can see correct; the Vital Lens" JGivens actually does this same thing in his song, "Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, You're My Only Hope" but he continues on by defeating relativism by showing that you can't escape truth claims. Please forgive me if this is vain and an immature rambling, I just think there is some error here. I'm very much interested in some dialogue here.

+Hopeful Elephant hey brother, it's good to see you're mulling these things over. Though I think Odd Thomas does have a lot more to say about the matter, I just think he was trying to keep within certain parameters for this song and not trying to go into a detailed apologetic here.Even the use of the word 'objective' as he's using it presupposes an objective, absolute frame of reference that wouldn't make sense in any other worldview. I'm sure Odd Thomas knows that and is herein taken that for granted. That's my two cents at least. Peace to you, in Christ's name. :)

you know I noticed at the beginning the beat almost sounds like mouth noises XD

+Memo Ochoa it does sound like that, yeah. I think it has a lot to do with Courtland Urbano, he seems to use a whole lot of real, sampled sounds, mainly acoustic sounds, which is why I like his sound specifically.

So I'm fairly new to this group and I have a question...why does the guy with the beard never say a word?

+based linne Many people ask that about him, but in my experience the "seemingly" silent ones do much more than the eye can see :) Their sound is UNIQUE and if thats all he's responsible for, thats MORE THAN enough....just my thoughts...be most blessed!!

+based linne He is just the producer but he does help with the beat.
