You can keep minnows alive for long periods of time if you know how. I have minnow in my tank as food for my fish plus the water temperature is for tropical fish but its way easier to keep them alive in ice cold water. I say this because I experimented with ways to keep them alive first in cold water then I transfer them to my tank 5 dollars worth last me a month. If I was to just keep them for bait they would last way longer but like I said I have them in my fish tank as fish food so my tropical fish can eat/hunt when ever. If you guys want to see a video of my tank then let me know I can show you how to keep minnows alive either to be used as bait of fish food.

+AnotherYear4MeAndU yeah I have my tropical tank in my downstairs living area but water temp is always at 80+ so I would have them in a bag sitting in the tank for awhile before putting them into my tropical tank

what I have found is that minnows from fast moving, cooler waters are harder to keep than ones found in rivers, streams, ponds, lakes, etc., where there the currents are slower.  That does not mean that ones from a creek with a fast riffles can't be kept but it does mean that species that frequent very fast water such as below a damn will not fair as well.  I kept minnows to feed my aquarium fish (never had to keep them for fishing as we'd catch them on the way to the lake).  I found that they do best in a tank with at least two aerators in the coolest spot in the house. Generally speaking, on a piggy back set up, the tank on the bottom will be the coolest.

So I live out of town and I have tap water that comes out of my well underground that comes from the creek I catch from. So can they survive in that?

I know most wells have clean enough water so that no chlorine is added. Most tap water from the city has chlorine in it that will kill minnows but your well may not. if you fill a tank with water and wait 1 day, if there is chlorine present it will evaporate out making the water safe. also make sure the waters temperature isn't too different from the water your catching the minnows from as the minnows can get shocked

I like what your doing with your Minnows, they look happy. But, I think a good strong filter system would keep your aquarium water crystal clear and not so foggy.. I too have minnows, they are living inside a 10 gallon cycled aquarium... They are happy, healthy, very active, and getting along swimmingly with my other fish..The Hang On Back Power Filter Systems such as the Aqua Tech filters are very cheap and super easy to find at your local Wal*Mart. Love your video btw :)

Thank you! I agree a stronger filter definitely help keep the fish healthier and it would help spread out the time between water changes.
