How to Make Elf Ears - Casting your Actor's Ears (Part 1)
Ear Casting is the first video of our even part series "Creating Elf Ears" on how to make custom silicone Elf Ears. This video covers the process on how to cast an ...
Why do we have to add the circular part after the ear has been made? Why
can't we just leave it with the part you chipped off instead of,
essentially, just re-making that?
+Jenna Larson You can leave it off if you want. It will be rough and not easy to mold over. Adding the extra plaster gives you a nice base under the ear when you start adding clay to sculpt your elf ear. I wouldn't add this step if I didn't feel it was important. It is how effects artists create plaster ears all over the world. I didn't make this step up. :)
i have one really important question that is preventing me from doing
research into this: What do you call this occupation? What do you call
people who do this kind of work?
Yes. Some effects artists specialize. Some are very good at sculpting or mold making or painting. Some will even specialize in prosthetic application and some do it all. It depends on where you live and what resources are in your area. If in Hollywood, you may only specialize because there are big makeup effects studios that are only looking for a particular skill to fill their work force. Many try and do it all and usually specialize in what they are good at. Some specialize in gore or fantasy makeup etc. Many artists have limitations to what they can do because they don't sculpt a lot or make molds but still work in film and television doing makeup application or mainly beauty makeup. It's a very diverse field with skill levels all over the spectrum.
+Egg Head FX Really? I would think that's what you call people who work with theatre makeup, not necessarily molding and casting. But i guess it is still a part of makeup if i think about it. Thanks.
+real life elf You can ask a dentist if they would sell you a 2 cups (475 ml) of alginate. It's a pretty common product in most countries for dentists casting teeth. Or purchase it from a dental supply store or often you can purchase kits used for casting baby hands. These kits use alginate to coat the baby hand when casting. Look at the material list to make sure it's alginate and not something else. Never cast a hand or ear or any part of a person's body with plaster.
+Seraph Cosplay Thank you Seraph, My goal has been to try and give as much information as I could. Especially techniques. :) And please share with your cosplay friends. Thanks

ok so the title says it all me and one of my best friend decided to make a video tutorial on how to make elf ears we got inspired from Lord of the rings which 'I' ...
Thank you! I'm planning a fairy costume using already owned or borrowed
items. I don't want to go out and purchase latex for a one time use so I
think this may be my cheap elf ear solution! How long do these stay on? Do
you think perhaps putting a bit of lash glue on your ear would help with
longevity?
They Can stay on for most of the day if you're careful with them and I haven't tried using eyelash glue but it might actually work you can always give it a try ^.^ and you're very much welcome I'm glad that you liked the video ^.~
+MarikNinjaPuff Actually there is a way to make it look realistic with only tape. If you use clear tape, put it where your ear connects to your face and wrap it around your ear will have the point. Cutting off the excess tape helps as well. Don't put makeup on the inside of the tape because it will make it stand out, only apply at the edge and also don't apply too much you want it to match the rest of the skin.
that's exactly what I did, and besides the fact it was on the long side, it wasn't a bad tutorial. The music might have people switch to others though, since you wanted feedback. Not everyone can be bothered to switch of the music, easy as it may be to do so
you do know that you can turn off the music and that is just a bad excuse for not watching the video because maybe the music is bad but that doesn't mean the video is and i will just let you know that the music changes because it's only there at the intro but of course this is your choice i wont make you watch the video if you don't want to but you really can't blame the music your choice and your comment may you have a good day ^.^
Elf Ears Tutorial
Create your own elf ears using felt and double stick tape.
Great! I'm working on a link costume. I googled and googled for a tutorial
and all of them seem too long... And I hate buying from other sellers and I
wanted to be creative. Now I found this! A plain piece of fabric just needs
a bit off airbrushing and detail such as wrinkles. This is perfect!
Haha I'm making some for my son who's 2 so I've been looking for something
that I don't have to glue and rip off his little ears. I'll definitely be
using this but I'll add the ear details to the fabric. :)
aww hes all like ''uhm, i font mean to be rude, but your squishin my face!!
ohh yehh yer squishin my ffaacceee'' lol yeh that was suppost to be a song
lol
Hi, I have been looking far and wide for good Link ears from legend of
zelda, the ones that you showed at 1:33, what were they called? I went on
the Aradani site and found some called "Large anime elf ears" they were
like 30 bucks. Im not sure if I should get the unpainted ones or pay the 5
bucks extra to get a light skin tone painted on. What did you do and what
would you suggest? Thank you! Heres a picture of my Link cosplay and the
ears I have now, they are on a head band and i just put them over my ears
and not on them, they get kinda annoying. :/

Hi Lopti! You said yo painted the ears black yourself, is that correct? Can
you please tell me what did you use to paint them? I'm ordering a pair from
Aradani and I thought about painting them as well but I don't know which
products are safe to use not to ruin them, like what
paint/makeup/remover/soap etc? Thank you, love your cosplay!
Thanks so much for posting this! I wasn't sure if I wanted to order from
Aradani for my ears, but they certainly seem like the way to go with this.
I''m also really impressed by how natural you made those wigs look. I've
tried once or twice, but wigs always feels and looks unnatural on me.
You have to select the color you want when you're ordering the ears,
otherwise they'll send you the unpainted versions, and you'll have to paint
them to match your skin. I always pick the "light" color for me.
Do darth maul, if you have my bad, I haven't seen it, if not I think it
would be awesome, I think you were born to be an elf, elf ears fit you
really well, great video, and I want to see you do darth maul lol
If you want them to match your skin color, order the colored ones. However,
if you plan on painting them yourself (like I do with my drow and Night
Elf), get the unpainted and paint them yourself. :)
Aradani sponsered the right person ^^ I like it how you enjoy wearing these
costumes. There should be a City for people who wanna wear costumes in
public every day so it isnt wierd anymore :D
I got these exact ears for Halloween this year but I was stressing because
I haven't really used latex ears before. Thanks so much for this video,
it's been really useful
lol my fiancé steals my youtube channel to subscribe to you and watch your
videos. Pretty neat stuff !
