hi I installed FTP server in windows and i have unix (Cent OS) running on VM and unable to connect to the ftp site . It says login failed. Please help me on this

Overdramatic music... but a good tutorial. I wish Mircosoft had included more flexibility with their own OS. Their FTP settings are pretty limited.

it keeps asking me for authenication and no matter what i type it wont let me in when i try to access my ftp site for the host computer...........

I have question I got this setup like you have... I can connect and log in with FlashFXP ftp client software.. logs in but if I try to upload a file or when logging in it gives me Data Socket Error: Connection Refused List Error Pasv Mode Failed : trying PORT Mode... what is wrong would you say?

@AtleEgeland - Be sure to check your firewall rules and be sure what ever port your ftp server (default 21) is able to get through. If you are connected directly to the internet and not connected to a router/firewall, check your software/Windows firewall.

actually the port is 21 for FTP, the port you are referring to is the administrative panel port, you want to forward port 21, NOT the other port! that is a security risk. forwarding the other port will NOT allow you to transfer files

How would you give them your external ip? will it be fttp://(your external ip here) ? i've port forwarded 14147, but im having difficulty externally accessing my ftp

your friend wouldn't be able to connect to your internal IP address, you'd have to port forward and give them your external IP address

Of course it's fast. I think it's just copying the file from a place to another. I would want to know your friend's download speed.
