Excellent - thanks for sharing. How did you get the engine out? What did you do around the transmission? Anyone know if this same removal method can be used for an ML350?

Engine removal was pretty easy. Most of the bellhousing bolts were accessible from the top and there are 6 bolts connecting the torque converter to the flywheel. This car is rear wheel drive, so I would imagine the ML might be harder to remove.

I replaced an engine on a c230 a few days ago ( no balance shaft here, just a chunk of piston inside the intake, or maybe a valve cuz they drove it so long with a bad balance shaft. anyways whenever i pulled the engine, i removed the fan and upper radiator support. i pulled the engine and transmission out together with all the accesories attached.. it seeems like i saved a ton of time by doing it that way..

+Mod MINI I left the trans in the car but it might be quicker to pull it together. Again, with an AWD ML, its going to be different than a RWD C230.

www.ecstuning.com has a OEM kit for under 400 USD shipped. Why did you have to pull the motor rather then unbolting the front clip/center support?

Because you have to unbolt the counter weight at the back of the engine which requires disconnecting it from the transmission. You also need to change the oil pump. Removing the engine is a lot easier than doing the job with it in the car.

Hey Sick Speed, I need to do this repair on my 06 R350 i'm not a mechanic outside of easy stuff starters alternators stuff like that. Austin TX Mercedes wanted 11k to fix mine has 160K on the clock tho. I found a shade tree guy certified mechanic that will try it, I found replacement balance shaft from this site //www.ecstuning.com/ES2594876/ but its just the shaft and two counterweights, I heard you say replacing the oil pump is necessary and the timing chain, cant seem to find reference to necessary parts to replace do you have a list of things any help is greatly appreciated

There are about 15-20 part numbers you will need, including gaskets, seals, a new chain tensioner, a new chain, an oil pump and a pickup. Sorry Ive been slacking on this parts list, Ill try to get on it.
