General Motors Co in 2005 decided not to change an ignition switch eventually linked to the deaths of at least 13 people because it would have added about a ...
Im sure they were more concerned with labor cost than the cost of the part
itself. Regardless they fucked up and should have to pay the piper. How is
thos happening in America. How were they able to get away with it for 13
years?
How? The US "right" worships the profit. Money is everything to a Con and the "right" wing light Dems. The rich can legally bribe officials into allowing them to get away with criminal activity. Average working class people get life sentences for smoking a joint while rich people get no time at all for rape or murder if they make a "contribution".
Counterpoint: true accountability would be that A) GM was sued to the point
of no return, and B) nobody ever bought (demanded) a GM car moving forward.
But hey, people are too fucking stupid for that solution to work.
A) For GM to be sued, there has to be laws and regulations they broke making them liable.B) Since people won't stop buying GM cars, that is simply proof that the free market does not actually exist in the real world and cannot be relied on.you are not arguing for libertarian policies, you are arguing against them.
You may. But you are thinking about this the wrong way: You see, GM will make sure to already now squeeze the very last penny out of potential buyers for that product possible. So if they would have put in the correct switch, they would have made about 1 less dollar in profit from that car. If they were not greedy assholes, you would get the product at the same price with better, reliable parts.
As long as the car's in gear, you shouldn't lose power brakes or steering,
as long as they're on traditional vacuum and hydraulic assist systems.
Wait scratch that, nowadays people drive unsafe child's transmissions...
well anyway, you could drop into second and regain those powers, if you
thought fast, on an automatic.
capitalism in its best.
a human being to a capitalist is merely a potential profit.
Just remember that the Govt, saved GM from bankruptcy using your own money.
How Amazing !
If I made a car part, and it didn't meet my standards, I'd stop making it that way. Then, only the parts that were already sent out would be a problem, and it would be just on GM. The fact Delphi knew it too, and kept pumping them out anyway, should make them responsible as well.
