Naan, like many Indian foods is a worldwide favourite. Traditionally it's cooked in a tandoor oven but many of us don't own one, so here I show you my naan ...
I have never had Indian food but I've always wanted to try it & I would
love to learn how to cook Indian food but as a starter I'll have to make
the naan bread do u have any suggestions as what I should start off making
at home besides naan?
+shannon kilner Butter, really? This is not true Indian Naan. Until Naan became popular by westerners it was primarily only eaten by the elite and tourist in Indian...
Learn how to make traditional Indian naan bread with chef and food writer Anjum Anand in this great video from BBC cookery show 'Indian Food Made Easy'.
I tried this recipe and cooked it under the grille ( electric ) as I only
have an " induction hob " and it worked out really good , first batch I put
under for to long , second batch I paid more attention to the cooking times
2-3 mins each side , then coated with some heated in the micro , melted
garlic butter and it is fantastic , I also mixed an egg into the milk /
whisked , before adding the wet to dry mix , definately on the menu again
,and may even add a spoonful of garlic powder to the dry mix as an
experiment , :-) , in-fact this could open up a whole new range of flavours
like adding chicken / veg / lamb etc stock cubes , broken down into powder
form to the dry mix . :-0 thanks for posting ,was my 1st time making them
but wont be my last :-) , not being rude , but a lot of cooking programmes
on telly the meats / fish etc are to expensive to buy for lots of us , so
this is really affordable good food :-)
I don't understand why a lot of people are so hard up to get a so called
"authentic" recipe. I mean, when I go to an indian food stall, I love to
have a plain prata with curry or dhal. The chef claims to have an authentic
recipe. Yes, it tastes good. Then, I go to another stall down the road and
have the same thing. This chef also claims to have an authentic recipe. His
food also tastes good. Guess what? Both of them had good food which differ
in taste. So which one has the authentic recipe?
I don't really know what everybody has against Anjum. I'm a lover of food
of many cultures and I love to cook. I just tried this recipe today. For me
this 1hr rested naan is definitely more attractive and convenient than a
4-5hrs one. Especially for people that don't have enough time to be in the
kitchen all day. Remember, she's about "Indian Food Made Easy". As for the
authenticity part, I found no big difference in taste compared to naans
I've eaten before.
Even I swear that my mum's cooking is authentic and that no one else comes
close. However, my friend may not think so and that's ok. At least Anjum is
doing something to promote Indian food to the masses. Isn't that a good
contribution? That's just my 2 cents. Anyway, please stop arguing, judging
and criticising. We already have so much hatred in the world. We don't need
more. Especially in food. I rest my case. Peace.
well, if you try to live your life in a laboratory instead of reallity you
will eventually lose your immune system and everything will get dangerous
and scary, and you have to set up rules and regulations because you're too
freaked out to think for yourself. Up until 50 years ago people used common
sense and survived pretty good plus they were much happier and less
neurotic! XD
no - it is a 'flatbread' but it is leavened meaning there should be a
certain amount of rise and puffiness. naan is thicker and puffier than
chapatis, rotis and parathas. all the naan i ever had (from indian,
pakistani and bengali restaurants) were puffed up in the tandoor. her
version is a quick fix version, but not the real deal.
This is the recipe Ingredients For the dough 250g/9oz plain flour 2 tsp
sugar ½ tsp salt ½ tsp baking powder 110-130ml/3½-4½fl oz milk 2 tbsp
vegetable oil, plus extra for greasing For the topping nigella seeds, poppy
seeds or sesame seeds, or chopped garlic and fresh coriander 1 tbsp butter,
melted, to serve Method
@AbstractMan23 indian naan and roti has no yeast but it actually always
puffs up when making it on the heat. i have seen it happen alot. once my
moms friend thought my mom put baking powder in her roti to make them puffs
so she did the same thing, and they turned out like fat globs of dough. lol!
It would be really helpful if there was like a wee listing that we could
maybe print off , detailing the ingredients and quantities etc , sorry not
meaning to appear to be rude , your videos are fantastic , easy to follow ,
and oh yeah , your just as yummy as your recipes, :-)
@onabreeze i never go to indian restaurants anyway. so doesnt matter what
shes doing. its just nice to know the recipe without the finger lickin.
lol! i like cooking at home. better food for my family and its quarter of
the cost. use that money for something else.
Not being rude but every recepie she has made according to her is from
india CRAP nan is from the peshawri region and i hav tried the curries she
has mentioned and trust me i'll stick to my own recepies or good old aunty
manjula - go aunty go aunty !!!
Peoplemake me laugh! How many people here have ever kissed someone? Did you
hold back for hygene reasons? How many people have ever had Oral sex? Did
you hold back for hygene reasons? I doubt it. Get over it losers!
@MarcusTheGrand we "real indians" do it just like she did it. because we
dont have the tandoor ovens in our homes, so we use normal ovens to make it
atleast if we dont live in india. dont use that much sugar tho.
Don't need to use the oven, you you mum mil the effect of a tandoor by
placing it on a non stick pan and heating it up on the ring and finishing
by turning upside down and cooking in the directv flame

+algeria784 mine won't either...lol. She has a special touch. I am fortunate if I can get one or two to rise. I do notice if I let them rest they will rise more.
Hello Manjula can I substitute the yogurt with eggs if so how many eggs and
is with or without the yolk? Thanks again for sharing this video, I'll keep
watching.
Hi there. If you don't want to put yogurt in your naan then thats fine. You don't have to substitute it with putting eggs instead of yogurt. You can make your naans without eggs and yogurt and it will still be perfect. I know this because I make all of my naans without yogurt and eggs. I hope this is usefull to you.
Just to say thank you for such an easy recipe to follow.l made my nan bread

become big and the resulte was amazing. bubbles all over the place! tastes
awesome. go on with your videos, you´re my favorit cook :)
Well the grill is just to brown it so you whack it in a pan one side - or
just in a single oven like what I have make sure both your oven and grill
are on and move it up under the heat after 3 mins
Yessssssssssss but be warned, they are so hard to make but it's crucial to
let it out after you've piped it or it wont rise also don't mix it for too
long or to stop mixing too quick!
haha yeah it will be tricky my next video is giant food related in a way -
except it's the opposite...... mini food, it's steak, onion rings and chips
really tiny and tastes great lol
Like that! The next giant one is likely to be a macaroon (french themed)
probably
Chef Gordon Struggles to Make Naan Bread - Gordon Ramsay
Gordon Ramsay tries to work in a tandoori kitchen on a busy night. He works the clay oven or tandoor and finds it very difficult. From the Cookalong Live show.
...all he did was roll it out, put it in the oven and take it out. What's
so impressive about that? The dough was pre-made for him I could've done
that shit.
+Younggrasshoppa use a tandoor and you'll know how difficult it is to cook with it, it's insanely hot and you can't have your hand in there for more than a second. it's almost a skill to place food correctly in it, unlike a contemporary oven - it's awkward as fuck - and hotter too.
Try putting your hand inside a god damn oven that's is so fucking hot that it feels like hell and being pressured at the same time and will see how easy that is
+SilhouetteJudas Yeah, any episodes of anything with him trying to work with Adian cuisine, whether it be this or 'great escape', he just struggles at it, whether it be Malaysian, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.
+tommy Goh IF he knew every single type of cuisine, he could then consider himself "unteachable" but there's no way any human being can learn all cuisines perfectly. He admits he has so much to learn and he knows that Asian cooking can definitely improve his own.
Pakistan was part of India. So what is pakistani? All food that pakistanis
cook are indian. Mind you indian food is popular not pakistani food.
Because the entire world knows Pakistan was part of India so the same type
of food is cooked in Pakistan. It is basically indian food.
I've actually tried using the tandoor once before, and I'd have to say, IT
IS HOT AS FUCK
The only way to do it right is to go in and out in under 1 second. Spend
more time and you'll feel the heat
Nothing goes better with a curry than a nice bit of naan bread. I'll show you just how easy it is to make. SUBSCRIBE TO MY COOKING CHANNEL, NEW VIDEOS ...
this is really good, but , I bought a bag of naan bread Indian way recently
from super store, first not notice it, while second time take a closer look
discovery they are sticky with a lot pan dirt, black powders, so have to
stop eat them and have to get them away, why they can not do it cleaner for
their own customers like cooking for themselves? guess we all have to cook
our own food, save and safe.the dirt and dust on the bread is a lot, but ,
if you not look carefully, will eat all of them.
I didn't have any yogurt, so I used extra milk. I'm sure they would have
been slightly lighter had I had yogurt, but they were good anyway. I used
spinach, garlic, and mozzarella cheese and the family LOVED them. I tripled
the batch because I wanted to be sure each person in my large family had at
least two medium sized ones, but wound up with two very large ones each,
lol. Needless to say, with scrambled eggs on the side, we each have one
large naan left over for later. It was fantastic!! :D
try as i say and you will love your spinach and cheese naan. just do not
cook spinach, chop it really fine or mince it with sharp knife and do the
rest as you did, and finally you must use rolling pin to flatten the bread
after filling and it will not leak out. and if you want to use pan only
cook the one side (bottom side) of naan and bake in oven using fan grill.
:D
