+D Bruce Yes...However... I think Fred lacks a solution to intertia in changes in peoples personal lives. His arguments seem to be right wrt. converging towards a working equilibrium, but ignores that people are very sensitive to even short term perturbations in financial situations.Maybe that will be solved by a basic income system... but you cannot just say that everything will be alright because there will be no unemployment in general - That doesn't help me handle half a year without income while learning a new trade and finding a new job. No matter how clear a path there is to that job. I have to eat in the meantime too.Anyway... there's solutions to that.Also... I find his final argument about democracy a dangerous experiment. The more levels of representation, the more places to inject corruption. The government needs to be held accountable to the people - as direct as possible.Public financing of elections is probably a better solution.

As a retired college faculty member of an American university, I understand
that the topic is complex and that the people on the panel have spent an
enormous amount of time working to solve the problems, which I honor and
respect. But I'm appalled that the panel members and organizers thought
suits and ties were a good idea. Also, though the panel members may be,
"..accomplished and committed and engaged", as Max Neiman declares, the
landscape of the panel itself is very male and very white.
