Ive only seen a couple stock 6s in highboys. My 67 came with the 352, and
when that went bad in 08, I picked up this 300 six during the time gas was
over 4 a gallon, thinking it may get better mpg. It gets better empty, the
same loaded. Its a little under powered, but I like the tourque band on it.
Its ok for what I do. I agree, p steering and p brakes are some of the best
upgrades you can do for our old fords! Someday Ill get that cummins! Any
new vids? I want to see the lattest on yours
I spent a few hours taking the old settup off, then the next day I spent
the better part of the afternoon fitting and welding the backing plate and
drilling the holes before mounting. The next afternoon I took a few hours
to cut, bevel and weld the steering shaft and drag link. The most critical
part is to make sure you have full rotation of the pitman arm in
correlation with the turning radius of the wheels before cutting the drag
link. Good luck and keep me posted on how it goes!
Ok that makes sence to me. The 300 was a damn good engine anyways. Ya my
power steering swap was the same way, check, mesure, check, cut..check tack
test lol ya I been thinking of making a new video. Id only imagin that 300
could be improved better cam better exhaust ect iv even seen fuel injection
added to a 300 6 and it turned out good. On the other hand the 300 was used
for everything and in stock form will last for ever!
Ford 300's came factory with fuel injection.. My 1995 f150 has a FI 300 6
cylinder. 198k miles, all factory, and still going strong. When I
re-powered my highboy, the 300 six wasn't even a consideration.. not enough
power for what those trucks were designed for.. Instead, I swapped in a
1968 high compression 429. Screw FE's, I think they are junk.
hi. could you tell me what the arm is from the box to the mini drag link?
thankyou. and how would this settup be with wide tires? do you think it
would hit the pitman arm?, if thats what its called , ( the arm from the
box to the link)
my brothers 77 came stock with a 6. I dont mind the 6, but Id rather have a
v8. Even though I do get worse mileage, its cheaper and easier to get more
power. And the highboys I got arnt my daily driver so it doesnt bother me.
That's a 300 straight 6? I didn't know you could get a f250 high boy with a
6, nice truck man! Good job on the power steering up grade. I up graded to
power steering and brakes on my 67 best thing I ever did!
Did that pitman arm come from the same truck as the steering box?
BLACK TACO POWER STEERING PULLEY SHAFT EXPLOSION
Well folks while driving back from Sunday's four wheeling series adventures with the Black Taco and Sarah.. I was about 5 miles from home when I heard this ...
+barese420 That sucks, at least you have the expertise to do the work. Dans tracking down the parts for his trick as we speak, so hopefully we will be up and running again soon.
Yes I was very lucky.. I have replaced everything already almost twice so the radiator is brand new also.. the pumps must be defective because that's another one off another Tacoma and it still failed.. so now even Japanese isn't that good anymore..
Yes I was glad it wasn't that serious she's trying to find another pump they're very rare now because they happen all the time.. I hope I can find one for next Sunday's four wheeling series adventures..
Yes that's exactly what I said too..LOL I've seen the shaft break in half on Chevy cars.. and I've seen a Dodge Caravan have the same problem.... but the clip came off that holds the shaft in...mine the bearing disintegrated.. that's why the chef came out not because the clip came off like the Dodge caravans do..
