+agus salim that means that is not a source code . it'll direct execute , search the file which can be execute . some time make file given , check if it exist either execute the file direct .

+BriceMcphailTV when you are installing .deb file in terminal you have to type so many commands in terminal.....to skip that i have searched a software called gdebi.to install gdebi we have to put a command in terminal or we can install it from software center....so finally gdebi help us to skip all the commands which we have to type in terminal to install .deb file......so in my video i installed gdebi with terminal not .deb file.....

i tried download and install deb files as u taught but still cant get thru.. Brother-DCP-J100' requires the '/usr/lib/cups/filter/brother_lpdwrapper_dcpj100.. this is what i get.. any idea?

Thanks TNC. I went ahead and installed Pydio so will be playing with it for a while until I figure it out. Any ideas on replacing the Mysql lite db with a more robust one and what are the benefits? Thanks again..

+akuchi4u sqlite is a more portable database as it is only a single file. However, it does have considerably less features and only supports a single user. MySQL supports multiple users and is preferable in deploying applications to users. This video and the written companion tutorial sets up Pydio with MySQL.

+Jen Chery I personally find that ownCloud is more suited for home. However, it does depend on the features. I use ownCloud at home because it is easier for my other family members to use. There are also more plugins if you want to use ownCloud for more than file storage. One feature that I really like about Pydio is that you can monitor the number of times a file is downloaded and can set download limits (i.e. disable the download link after the file is downloaded a set amount or after a set date). Pydio also allows you to create workspaces for different files whereas ownCloud you just choose which folders are shared with which users. For simplicity, I currently run ownCloud, but I enjoy using both.

Been looking at this since ownCloud went to an update of PHP that is not apparently readily available. Or it is available, but I can not get a final word on stability. Seems they went a bit Ape Sh** after some hack attack a few months back. ownCloud is hammering the security front really hard, and maybe with cause. I will be taking your suggestion and running this as well, and get my family involved. Will write back with an update at some time in the future. Many thanks again, and as always, I am looking forward to your next instructional :D

+sgtevmckay Hey! Glad to see that you are still checking out new things every once in a while. About ownCloud. It started using a higher php5 version. (I think it now needs php5.5). You can double check your servers php version by typing the following command:sudo apt-cache policy php5You will be able to see the version you are currently running in the "installed" line. If you are still running php5.4 type in the following commands. Else copy and paste your output here. sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ondrej/php5sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get upgradeLet me know how it goes!

because i'm using linux permission/acl to control who can edit/read files. If you don't have a new use inside ubuntu, that user will not appear in the acl list. yes you can set "others" acl to also people with no credential to access the files but that's not very secure.

In Windows I can save all names I want access to my shared files in a txt document and then copy paste that into the acess box when setting up shares. Is there a simple way to do that in Ubuntu instead of 1 by 1? THNX
