I just watched you take out that metal from the top of your fan and just
did the same thing here with a pair of pliers. Pliers are faster. Also, I
didn't remove the half circle part of that sheet metal, so it remained
secure and with it's holes intact to screw the vent to.

I think that rivets are definitely more secure but for your purposes the 3M & bracket may be enough. For the harsh terrain and vibration that this car was built for would shake it loose without rivets!

hi, I'm having a problem. when range hood fan is on. the smell appears in
other parts of the house. I check for leaks in the duct going outside thru
the wall and it's sealed. have come across this before? there's a 4" round
duct install now. should've I used 6"?
+erik bergstrom I found the problem this past weekend. there was a false sealing installed in the kitchen when it was remodeled before we bought the home. the duct was leaking cooking oders into the void between the new and old ceiling and had nowhere to go but up into the other rooms in the house. thanks for your reply.
+walter amaral I have over the years services many older hoods that experienced leaks inside the walls. Most of these installs where 40 years old or older. Duct tape can break down after that much time has passed. Its hard to see the exterior of the pipe joints to determine if they where properly taped. It may be time to reinstall the duct. You will need someone that can handle drywall patches of you are in between floors.
For a commercial kitchen is it better to vent through the wall or roof? We
are installing a kitchen in a 100 yr old building and my partner has
concerns about going through the roof with regard to liability since we are
leasing the space. The company installing the hood wants to go through the
roof.
Going through the roof generally makes the hood quieter, since the air isn't making a hard turn the sound of the air movement is minimal. Other then that benefit there are no other advantages other then cost and the trouble of getting the permit for the roof cap ( if applicable )
great video :D I have a hole in my wall above the oven with a fan in it
have no clue what its for and its in the wall not the ceiling so I don't
know if its for a vent or what :/
You could do that, and later you could always hang a recirculating air hood or microwave/hood. It would be better then having nothing and it isn't against code to have a recirculating air hood
Great video. If I need to vent right out the exterior wall with 8' ceilings
and my hood has a 6" exhaust. Can I use 6" to 8" duct "enlarger" and then
use your 8" backvent elbow? I think I would have room for both pieces.
great video thanks. can you please tell me what the square plenum elbow is
called again - at 1:50 in the video? sounds like you are saying a backman
elbow? this would be perfect for our application.
That backvent albow is model vp561. Available at ventahoodparts dot com

30" clearance is wrong I must add. Code usually only applies to combustible
objects such as the cabinets and it's commonly 18". Installing the
microwave 30" makes the microwave dangerous to use when bringing in and out
hot objects. You're my hero Brian but tsktsk
30"???? are you putting it to the ceiling? 13"-16" between the cooktop and
the bottom front of the microwave is required
