@JerseyShore117 Hi, yes this can be confusing if you are not used to tv and video frame rate. For USA your camera (or the FZ100) will shoot at either 1080i (60 frames interlaced scan) or you can select 720p (30 frames progressive scan). I don't understand why panasonic didn't give us the full HD mode of 1080p as the cmos sensor can output at that rate. The Sony HX9V does 1080p which is really smooth. Progressive has the advantage of smoother video especially with moving objects, no blurr with it

@toffeehumbug Hi, this is a tricky one. The lights are supposed to be quite intense at the moment so it should be easier to capture great images. I would be inclined to use a good tripod as you will need exposure times of at least 30 seconds at f3.5 ( with the lens at widest aperture) and an iso of 400. If you need lobger exposures you will need remote shutter release for B exposure. Video might be trickier I would try iA and let the camera do is thing. Keep spare batteries warm and use M focus
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@JerseyShore117 For most applications 720p will give you a couple of advantages. One is much smoother video as some cameras will do 720p at 60fps which means if you want to do some slo motion then the action will be better. Also the 720 avchd files sizes are much smaller to deal with in your editing program 1080 files are really demanding on processor power. If you produce YT videos then the upload time for 1080 is also long. Probably most viewers won't view at 1080 because of streaming issues.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@sirtommypigeon I would suggest that you turn off the manual focus assist until you get to know how to adjust focus. The blurriness of the background will depend how far your subject is to the background, how close you are to the subject, the lens zoom setting and the aperture. Use the biggest aperture f5.6 or larger ( depends on zoom) to get the most blurriness. use the focus control and watch the screen closely until you see it come into focus, go through it and then back up to get it right.

@storeyarmer Hi, I don't have a FZ100 to check but if you are in the manual focus position on the lens barrel and in PAS or M then the focus can be adjusted with the top control wheel provided that the MF icon is "yellow" Pressing in the control wheel allows you to ycle through the options available in the selected mode so it could be you are ajusting shutter or aperture rather than the MF mode. As you push the wheel inwards watch for the MF icon on the screen to go yellow then turn the dial.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hi this video shows all there is to know about manual focus. When you pish the switch to MF the focus is adjusted by the little control wheel on the top right of the camera back. as you rotate the wheel the display shows the focus position in feet from the subject to the camera. If you turm MF assist on in the menu you will get an enlarged view of the subject. This way you can see when yo have it sharply focused. At close range depth of focus is great so it is difficult to set point focus.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@JerseyShore117 Well 1080i gives you a video frame size of 1920 x 1080 pixels, so for example if you display this video on a TV with 1080 mode you will have a lot more resolution and hence a sharper looking picture. If you use this 1080i video in a 720p project then you have the opportunity to zoom into the frame to give effectively 2.5 zoom without loss of quality. You can use this to good effect if you can't get close enough to your subject or want to do a rostrum type pan on the frame.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@JerseyShore117 FSH is the bit rate video mode which is 17Mbps - the highest quality, SH is the 13Mbps bit rate. There isn't officially names for the acroynms its a bit like LP and SP in vhs tapes. The 2 other optionas with raw are raw with high quality jpeg and raw with low quality jpeg. So you can preview your images in the universal format of jpeg and then do the raw conversions on only those files that warrant the extra trouble to get the last bit of quality available from the sensor
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@nelgold1 Hi Helen, pause the video to see the disatnce scale in more detail. Basically as you adjust the focus the marker bar will move to denote the actual focal distance. So for example if your subject is 2 metres away as you adjust the manual focus as the bar approaches the 2 position you should start to see you image sharpen. Take it through the sharp point and then back it up a little to get the exact focus point. Hope that helps, if not re-email please.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@JerseyShore117 Yes that's right it is just that interlaced video doesn't handle moving images very well you can sometimes see a ghost/ double image as the object moves. Progressive byuilds the frame bottom to top so you may see objects with slight vertical distortion if they are moving quickly as on each subsequent line scan the image will have moved fractionally. Its a choice we have to live with with video production smooth or possible double image
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pRlmUS7cbO8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAABWg/-5zd8cELKDg/photo.jpg?sz=64
Why I can't achieve the same thing? Do you use another extra device. Or does it have to be done in a close up range? I've tried to shot a book at front and another book on the back. I would like the book on the back to be blurry, but I still get both of them sharp. I've played with the aperture and manual focus. But doesn't seem to have any significant effect, except everything becomes sharp, or everything becomes blurry.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@nkw5540 Hi the trick to this with a camera with a small sensor, which has an inherently large depth of field, is to use the method of keeping ypur subject as far from the background as possible and then using a fair amount telephoto zoom set and then moving back until your subject fills the frame for a head and shoulder shot. This way will give you a blurred background jsut as you wanted. Hope that helps.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@AlexxaMJ You don't explain when the flash is not working. First test the flash fires manually. In the camera meny scroll to the flash setting, scroll down the the symbol of the lightening flash on its own, select it and then thry using the camera. If it still does not work then the camera is faulty. Or is it the external flash which is not working? You need to tell me more for me to help you further.

The real danger flash guns are the ones which use the primary flash voltage as part of the camera trigger circuit which was fine with mechanical shutters and switches. With digital cameras the whole game changed. Some manufactures employed high voltage thyristors or scr's in the camera circuit on earlier models but with more high end electronics the size of components became a limiting factor in the voltage the ic's were to withstand however if your trigger is only 9.4 I would rate this as OK.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hi again. The Practica flash gun can only be used with and external trigger such as shown in the video. The "trigger voltage" of this gun is too high to directly use it on the FZ150 it would probably destroy the output of the camera. By using the radio controlled triggers you can use just about any flash unit off the camera. All the unit s will be manual so exposure is done by dividing the guide number of the flash by the distance to get the f stop to use. The remote flash units are universal.

thanks you so much...!!! now.. i have another trouble..!! in your video you said that every flashgun that have less than 20v trigger is compatible with the fz150!! But.. every flashgun have the same hotshoe format to adapt to the fz150?? For example..! i would like have an yongnuo 560 flash unit with the fz150!! is it compatible with the hotshoe on the camera¿? other question, when some flash says that it is compatible with canon or nikon DSRL, can i mount this flash unit on the fz150?
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-iGdDqiw-SaI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/eWGzrdOUfWE/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Well after a little research, I found my SB-600 has a pretty low (sub 4v) trigger voltage. So I popped it on the top of my FZ100 and tried it. Whiteout! :-o So I put the camera on manual, closed the lens down to F8, the shutter set to 1/50th by the camera which had detected the flash unit, and tried it out. I set the flash to manual and it happend to be on the flash zoom setting of 24mm. Bingo! I'll have to wait for night so I can try this some more, but it's looking good so far! :-)
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hi, trigger voltage is the voltage which the flash gun puts out on its hotshoe or synch cord. It is there so that when this is shorted out by the camera firing circuit ( normally a thyristor in digital cameras) it fires the flash unit. Traditionally in early guns this trigger voltage was derived from the main flash tube voltage around 350v. This high voltage would destroy the thyristor in the camera. Modern flash guns have trigger voltages of below 6 volts and hence entirely safe.

Hi there. This might be the wrong place to post a question but I have seen your videos regarding the FZ35 and Fz 100. I must say they have been very helpful. Thank you for that. I have used the FZ38 and the image quality was brilliant but the only problem was with the video of the FZ38. I used to get a purple fringing/vertical lines whenever I shot a subject under lights. I wanted to know if the FZ100 suffers from the same problem. Will appreciate if you can answer the question
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Although this flash unit has a low trigger voltage I suspect the polarity is wrong for the LX5 hot shoe. I have had this with other guns as well. The work around might be to use a "wireless flash trigger" - which also gets you a better flash position off camera. If you have a multimeter you could check that the centre pin is positive with respect to the side contact. I'm sorry I don't have any other ideas to help.
https://i1.ytimg.com/i/VeLDJyNwr-QmzHklc_Wqgw/1.jpg?sz=64
No no. Its like if I was to shoot something that has a tungstun or florescent light, the camera will pick up a purple vertical line as if its a vertical streak originating from the point where the light is the strongest. I am not sure if I have been able to explain it properly but I will try to show you some footage to better explain my situation. Thumbs up for your speedy comment and help. Thank you very much
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
The problem with non compatible mounts is that they cannot be used in the automatic mode where the camera will determine the flash exposure by e-ttl communication with the flash gun. Using a nikon or canon mount will mean the gun might fire but you would have to set the flash gun to a manual power mode to control the flash power. At the moment there are few guns with panasonic compatible mounts

@ghough12 Thanks for the reply Graham. I'm not sure why I'm having trouble with that link, but I still am. Nevertheless, I'm really enjoying your videos! :-) Incidentally, I'd love to see a video showing how to get the best from the 220fps video mode. Everything looks slightly blurred when I use it. Even when setting to wide angle, using a tripod & cable release in bright light.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-UYekv0AGvuc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-WlAq-2becA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@tori23epic With the Fz100 I don't think you can disable it, there are 4 options in the camera icon setup menu but none disable it. Remember the flash only charges when you "open" the cobra head by pushing the flash open button and you should see the flash symbol flashing as it charges in the viewfinder. Hope that helps, get back to me if you still don't get flashing!
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-MMWhcVp7mco/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/YBK8_dCfTGM/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Thanks - did not think to try first :) but as you said it should work I gave it a try - works perfect and in TTL mode as well. Actually my flash is Olympus F600r - so I wonder if the wireless option works using the built in flash on my GX7 - I will give it a try - would be nice as I have a OMD-5 as well and then both cameras could be used during a shoot

very interesting video just started to try flash with my photography after many years avoiding it because of the pit falls that you have pointed out. I would like to do some still life work with flash, please could you do a video on this subject as i am sure other people would look forward to seeing your take on this type of photography. Thank you

@RedKnite13, FZ100 is known for its picture quality and no need to use any picture enhancemet softwares. I have not used any picture enhancement software for above pictures. All the pictures taken in "iA" mode with AF. I suggest you to reset the camera to factory settings and update the Firmware to 1.2. Adjust the Zoom levels to focus the object with camera this will give you much picture quality with respect to focused object. You can also use mode "A" (Aperture Priority) to focus the object.

I also have that camera, I just bought it this weekend, but the quality of my pictures are not that good compared to the pictures shown here... Please reply, I need some advice from you on how to take good pictures from FZ100? Any specific settings perhaps... Thanks! Have a nice day!
