This video attempts to explain how to use 'Compiz' as a standalone window manager in Arch Linux. Software needed: Yaourt compiz-bzr emerald-git Create a ...
Hello, Thank you so much for commenting ! :) You 'may' be able to download
the emerald themes package from the AUR. However, they're marked out of
date, but still might work. That way you can get a different effect for the
border. Arch being a rolling release can be prone to breakage with some
packages. The ones in the AUR are not officially supported -- so use at
your own risk. Therefore something like Debian probably wouldn't have all
the latest packages ; i.e. gimp 2.8.6 -- continued...
Hi dan , I have three questions , how can i change the red window border at
0:24 it is ugly for me , also i just wonder how can arch Linux be a stable
distro if they use the latest packages ? i'm confusing now about what does
stable means? in other words What is the difference in stability between
debian and arch , last Q: what if there is a broken package can i restore
the old one ? keep up the good work. Thank you.
:) i just hate one thing in Linux it is about video editing programs. Could
u plz make a video how to edit your videos, which programs u used ? I'll be
grateful to you. i tried pitivi but really i don't like it. i tried also
kdenlive but there are alot of profile option i don't know which one should
i use , some of them i used it the render the video but the output video
not clear at all.
Hi thanks to reply :) I meant Kwin, not Kwing, sorry about that, kwin I can
say, it's compiz for kde, you could go see Matthew Moore on youtube, he did
a video "Install Kwin 3D effects in XFCE " I try already and it's working
fine for me, very interrsting that video. Cya ;)
Hi midfingr, it's a bit difference with xfce, I wonder if openbox will work
with Kwing, cause I saw you have kdenlive install it, so you should have
kdebase install it, right? It is cairo-dock you have or docky? Good tips
your video ;) Thanks!
Hello, I'm not sure. I 'think' the bzr file has been modded to include some
extras... Outside of that, 'Arch Unity' may have those additions; never had
much luck with that however. Thank you for commenting ! :)
I installed archlinux openbox with my customization followed your videos ,
also i made a backup for the whole HDD using clonezilla also i learned that
from your channel so thank you so much sir.
Hi, Apologies -- Kwing -- is that a game ?? kdebase wasn't installed with
kdenlive, from what I could see at least. The dock is/was
Avant-Window-Navigator Appreciate the comments. Thank you :)
This video demonstrates installing the Mate desktop environment in Arch Linux. EDIT: /etc/pacman.conf ADD: [mate] SigLevel = Optional TrustAll Server ...
Hello, Apologies for the late reply. I'm not sure of you can have kdm or
gdm and the xinitrc file. One that may work with xinitrc is Slim. You'll
need to edit the slim conf file (in /etc) to include all of those desktops.
Although, either kdm or gdm may give you problems if disabled with slim
enabled. Arch Wiki; search for Slim and follow the Multiple environments
section. It may also shed some light on dealing with other log in managers.
Excellent tutorial! On my system, I have 3 different Desktop Environment to
chose from. Gnome, KDE, and Xfce. I'm trying to get Mate to show up but it
wont. The only way I can get the Mate UI is if i run exec mate-session from
the terminal. Also, the .xinitrc file is in the /etc/skel directory...
help??
I always enjoy your tutorials. you easy to listen to and a good teacher.
maybe someday do a live install, I tried and got about 2/3 ok but then did
something wrong. Will try again. I want to learn Arch
KDE. It allows me to select different desktop environments, but Mate is not
there. I have Gnome, but it looks and feels kind of clunky. I added
.xinitrc to the ~ directory to no avail.
+sanjay kumar Hello,The file it's looking for (.xinitrc) has been moved to another directory. However, I found the quickest way to startx is to type: startxfce4To get that file into your directory, simple copy it ... :cp /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ~/.xinitrc
