I have watched/listened to band footage of all SWAC bands and even though I have my favorite ; all these years I can't for the life of me figure out why jsu is compared to Southern. What are you all listening to? Southern has a much cleaner sound, they are consistant in everything they do, they are disciplined ......I DO NOT see the comparison. Jackson is wild , loud, .....I really believe jsu got best band in 2013 because they couldn't keep giving it to Southern. Really ! Jackson St. is a smaller Alabama State.

I know im a little late but I think people compare jsu and su because both of them always bring the heat with whoever they battle, considered the best in ms and considered best in La, loud and neither gives up in a battle at all and also they both have a strong fan base. So I dont think people compare them on the way they sound just the way they act because it's mor than obvious they they sound completely different cause jsu is always gone be heavy with the low brass and su has amazing high brass.

C MAC those are not facts your stating they're opinions, and they are obviously biased....both JSU and SU have demonstrated a clean articulate sound, as well as sounding patchy and somewhat wild at times, keep it real bru, SU invented playing wild, (hanging over, taking parts up etc) and I'm not saying anything is really wrong with it if it's under control...the BOOM has deep Big Band Jazz roots and improvising to some degree is one thing that gives bands their identity, so don't make it sound like SU has this perfect pristine sound cause they don't, maybe they just have a style that you are more partial too...it's your opinion doe, you entitled....
