+Jed Dowling Not to mention that if you live in a rental/flat/apartment the landlord will take your sweet deposit if they find out you drilled holes into their walls and ruined the paint + wood...
No, do not use the brackets, they are very weak. I am 70 kilos (sorry Americans) and when I started using it the brackets bent so much that the bar was nearly slipping off.
It won't damage the top of the door frame, the weight is distributed to the sides, it can dent the door frame but you can place towels to stop that.
Pull Up/Chin Up Bar No Screws Needed (with demonstration)
This video is a small unboxing and demonstration of a pull up bar, that requires no screws. The bar goes for about $15, but with shipping it came up to $40, since ...
That one looks too cheap. I just picked up far better looking one with full
length high quality foam covering for $30 (including taxes) in Montreal
Wallmart, brand Everlast.
+social experiments Yeah, house is from 1800's, and door frame was about 70 years old and cheaply made. Walls are very strong, and great as far as soundproofing goes. I can blast music and nobody outside can hear it.
+social experiments My first one broke door frame, I was not using screws. I'm 6'1" and around 220 pounds. So I think about 185 cm and 100 kg. For next one I used screws and just paint chipped a little. So, for me, I use screws.
+Jack Hunter I bought the pull up bar and used it .... surprise : the wood had absolutely nothing neither the paint BUT one of the wall around the door started to crack when I tried to fix the bar in place . Now I am afraid to mount the bar again .... didn't know I was so strong that i can Crack a wall lol . And I am a normal looking dude, 63 kilos.
+social experiments At bare minimum your paint will crack. More likely it will also damage wood visibly. Whether you can repair damage done by simply using some paint depends on how sturdy is your specific door frame. Most are fairly flimsy wood and could crack all over in which case you might need to replace entire frame.
+MikeDunn It came with 4 mounting circles, you need two, so other two are spares. They also included 12 screws, you need 6, 3 per side. Now, technically, YES you CAN use it like this guy did, without sides, it would work, but then you'll damage your door frame more than if you use mount. With mount its matter of few minute paint job to repair damage if you move or change your mind as to where you want it.
I saw a couple of fail videos of these coming off the doorway whilst people
were using it, what's the likelihood of that happening? I don't want to
snap my shit
Look into the Perfect Pull up bar. Aka Multi-gym. More sturdy, better grips, wider, and the same price. The iron gym is old school. It was great, but then I bought the "Perfect" model.
Thanks, my house is pretty old so maybe that's the reason but there is no seam. So far I have been using the bar without the triangular piece and its been working well.
+Son of Thrain You might be hitting a nail? Have you tried a different area? Most, if not all standard home door trim just sits flush against the frames 2x4 and part of the sheetrock/drywall uptop. It should snugly fit into the seam. Hope it works out for you.
Ive had my iron gym for 3 years. Good product.
Does anyone out there have to wear gloves when using it? If i dont it
flares up the calluses on my hands.
+TheCapiceki I recommend looking at this one. I tested this on my channel too. Much more stable and wider. Its from Perfect, found at walmart, dicks, academy, you name it. Heres the link to show what it looks like. I guess you can buy it here if you want too. https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Fitness-31010-Multi-Gym/dp/B008DNAJYI/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=jims03-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=ZPCYXF4SBLOAUOLC&creativeASIN=B008DNAJYI
+danbobbit153 By the time they left the black marks, I just left it. But I went ahead and bought a better bar and its the same price. //amzn.to/1HXBT8I Its the Perfect Multi-Gym. Did on review on this too. Much more stable, wider, and hasn't damaged my doors.
+Adam Ahmed +MP HD It leaves black marks on the front of the door frame as well. Its the foam that causes the black marks. There's no plastic on the front bars that extends across. I used black electrical tape, but that didn't work either.
Maybe, but the way I think of it I think will ruin the balance. Try putting a couple sheets of paper on the wall, atleast then its the paper getting coloured
+MP HD The black marks are left by the plastic, when you pull yourself up the plastic is forced to come closer to the wall, there is foam there but it is too small.... all I can think of is putting tape on the wall, but I doubt that will be effective enough
I would look into the "Perfect Multi-gym" on youtube. or "best pull up bar". I did a review on that one, much better than the iron gym for the same price. I stopped using the iron gym.
