My daughter is deaf and I feel there isn't enough deaf schools NOW! The deaf school here in Texas is maybe 3 to 4 hours away and I just cannot send her away. She's in a public school which she absolutely loves and I want her to grow up and know the real world because she will be around a lot of hearing people. But I would definitely send her to a deaf school if they had more of them, closer to home.

She has a cochlear implant that she's been wearing since 2011 and she hears well, but is going thru the process of learning everything and going to speech therapy. The cochlear was her choice and she loves it, I will definitely look into more things to get my daughter involved with the deaf community... she only knows about school and there is no one else in my family that's deaf so it is very difficult for her to even just hang out and do things with them... kind of like they're intimidated by her being deaf??? Not sure if u understand that.... but thank you. I will start my search.

Maybe you could talk to the deaf school about summer camp programs and try to find deaf events in your area to bring your daughter too. Even if it's a mostly adult deaf coffee night people will respect you for trying to involve your daughter in the Deaf community

Hello! Why don't you get in touch with Gallaudet University's Education and/or International Studies program and see if you both can develop an internship? Some students will love the opportunity to teach abroad and develop materials with you and your team. Keep in mind, it is best to have native signers on your team (from your home country and s/he co-lead with you on this project as well). Kind regards, Elsie Stecker

Thanks for the response.  I am looking for technical support in the form of receiving volunteer teachers to help improve the young school standard.  Materials such as special number books, sign spelling book, visual aids (DVD players and disks of primary educational importance), and cash to enable us construct school facility.  There are more kids far and near Buchanan where we run the school wishing to be in school but accommodation is a hindrance for them since I have nowhere to host students. Right now, the school is squatting on a church property. You you can see lack of support has caused to offline for months. This is why I am replying to your email late. The only financial assistance i get comes from an American friend, Mr. Richard Johnson in the United States.  With his help, i have ben able to bring in to volunteers teacher, and now in the process of legalizing the entity by next week before getting to organizations like the World Federation of the Deaf.Thank you so much and you may please ask anything.Jackson N. Hello Jackson. Thank you for reaching out. Try to get in touch with World Federation of the Deaf (//wfdeaf.org/). By the way, what kind of materials are you looking for?
