Lessons from a long Tesla 70D winter road trip
Some insights on driving the Model S after the 5900 mile road trip.
Hello...Thank You for making these videos...! You need a dead cat for your
microphone Wind Noise... at least a fleece glove... or a knitted sock...!
Greetings from Denmark.
+Tesla EVangelist I know... read your comments. Thank You for replying. Just Remember to get a dead cat. For now: Is there a way you could tape a piece of artificial fur over your mic...? You deserve better audio. Footage of road trip scenery is excellent...! I learn a lot from your videos... about your Tesla, and get a glimpse of your USA. Keep on Truckin...!
Road trips in EVs do just suck !! Because you never have that feeling of
being free !
Just rent a car for these days and enjoy your days off from work....
You can´t explore and enjoy new places without constantly thinking about
range. That is a fact !! But don't get me wrong ......I love EV's.
+pol1250 That is why I opted for a two car solution. A Leaf Nissan for my daily commute .....it is small for around town( good to find a parking spot ), extremly economical and incredibly reliable. And my dual cab Hilux for the rest. Best part.....plus 20k $ left !!!
Well a tip to any friends TESLA CPO program has plenty of 85kWh cars for very good prices. As long as they don't expect Autopilot it is a great way of getting a TESLA. Any car that is October 2014 or later can have Autopilot added but not models from before then as they don't have the sensors and cameras built into the body.
+Harry M With the present state of both camera technology and speed limit signs, it might be better as is, because (1) the car does not always detect changes in speed limits, and (2) sometimes the speed limit is not the most appropriate speed for the immediate conditions anyway. So for the moment, I think speed choice is better left to the driver in at least some cases.
+knpstrri've never actually driven a tesla, so i wouldn't know if it does that. you'd have to ask someone who actually drives a tesla with autopilot.but no, i don't see any reason why they wouldn't do it that way. after all, it's only a few lines of code...
I found your frank and honest videos very helpful. I was close to ordering
a 70D, but will take more time to consider its practicality and battery
choice. The 70D will be an unmatched daily commuter but we must keep our
Prius. Although the Tesla is vastly superior in most ways, its simply more
convenient to use the Prius for long distance driving with its 500 mile
range and comfort in cold weather. I don't think I want to drive all day
wearing fleece, down parka, and insulated gloves. Thank you for time spent
highlighting these practical issues.
+Charles Hord Glad they were helpful! Because this was my first trip I was extra cautious with using the heat. In reality I probably could have used it more without effecting range as much as I thought. Still, range is definitely reduced in cold temps and high speeds. As you say that's an advantage to a prius compared with small-battery Tesla's. For me, the safety and enjoyment of the Model S is worth the extra effort. Thanks for watching!
+Tesla EVangelist All understood..And keep the videos coming, because I do appreciate them and your point of view.If there is a negative I think you should still state it because where this is an issue there is a solution. best regards and I will be watching your channel.
+Dirk Wainer Some of those issues were magnified because I was on a long trip and balancing energy use with time spent at superchargers. For day to day driving, it's not really a concern; if I'm cold, I turn the heat up. So, yes a 90 would have less concern, but it may have come across more prominent in the videos.
+Tesla EVangelist Cold from leaks in the doors, range issues, cold weather heating and cooling...I sort of wish I had purchased a 90 now or maybe not a Tesla because my Lexus has none of these issues. I live in Shanghai so the environmental issues are apparent, but the cost of inconvenience and comfort weight heavily on my decision after this video. well that is how it came across to me anyway.
We helped Tesla motors take one of their luxury cars out of the display, in the dealership's building in Chelsea. Removing and installing glass doors that big and ...
Tesla Model 3 - Information and Thoughts
The Tesla Model 3 is going to be a very exciting car. Here is the information and facts we know so far.
You can buy the most basic model S with a small battery pack for... around
$75.000? I didn't fact check. However most people when they buy their Tesla
spend more than $105.000. I think it will be the same for the Model 3. The
absolute most basic version will indeed be just over $30.000 but the
version everyone wants will, I think, approach $55.000.
