So it's official now. Savannah monitors are known to eat fruit such as figs when extremely hungry. I offered the dried fruit as an experiment and it was really 50/50 ...
Thank you for being polite. I appreciate that. Last person went all postal.
I would like to invite you to have a look at savannahmonitor dot co, there
is also a link to it on my youtube channel home page. The information there
is a cumulation from the world's leading monitor specialists including
Daniel Bennett who has traveled to Africa and studied these animals in the
wild and documented his findings. The people I deal with have all been on
Animal Planet, BBC & PBS documentaries.
sorry but you are definatly wrong about humidity these monitors are from
Ghana Africa which is on the coast of africa a grassland that is very humid
not tropical but still they do need moderate humidity. you are also telling
one of the very few CB for savs that he is wrong thats infernalis1. just to
let you know. he is a pioneer of the sav world
I agree its not right for his digestive system but haven't you heard that
they have to deal with crises worse than a fig to survive in the wild?
arent you borderline obsessive about it? Havent you ever done anything in
your life that was bad for your systems? relax and enjoy life :) stop being
an arse.
Lol any animal will eat anything i've seen red-tail boas, emeralds, as well
as ball pythons devouring chicken wings on here lol. if they are really
hungry they'll eat it trust me ! ahaha i'd like to see your sav. eat a bird
of some kind don't get too many of those vids. you should try it one day.
Thanks for all your comments. I guess I just want to show that these guys
may live with us like cats or dogs. There's no real need to lock them up in
terrariums. Plenty of outdoors should do instead. They are great when young
and just keep getting better with age. Good luck and cheers.
1. He ate 1 fig in his life. 2. He is 7 yrs old and has been free roam all
his life. 3. African savannah is anything but humid. 4. Regardless of his
condition, he doesn't lose interest in continuing a full life, that
includes interspecies action :) as well as tasting new foods.
There is no useful nutritional value in this, Whole prey items are the
ticket for a healthy Savannah Monitor. And continual free roaming will all
but guarantee your animal will perish within 5 years. They need to be kept
very hot and very humid to be healthy.
Wow. Your savannah is a pastel. Mines recently died of obesity and I'm
looking for another. May I ask where did you acquire yours. Check my vids
out. Mines had ruby eyes and a lot of yellow and green just like yours.
I agree with mr S. I think these animals should be able to raom around like
any other animal. With the proper lighting and care the sav. Could live up
to 30 years. Only if they are happy though. Happyness is key
