"How To Negotiate Your Rate" Makeup Artist Eve Pearl
5 time emmy award winner and celebrity makeup artist Eve Pearl takes us through the art of negotiating your rate.
This is very good advice, you ALWAYS want to ask them what their budget is.
Sometimes you'll be surprised and they'll come back with more than what
your rate was to begin with, which is another reason why you want to ask
what's their budget. I've lost a few big projects when I wasn't thinking
and plain old forgot to ask what their budget... they ended up going with
the low ballers, of course sometimes you get what you pay for and they
probably got just that!
I took Eve's class on the business of makeup at last year's IMATS and it
was so valuable! After this, you would ask how many people, are there men
and women? Then if they don't want to pay your going rate you can always
ask if they'll include a kit fee. I love her and her products, she is
GREAT.
Eve, LOVING these Makeup Artist business videos!! Thank you so much! You
are providing info and advice that others are not, and are genuinely
teaching and sharing your wisdom! Much love and appreciation xx
Ah, this is such a great tip/advise. I got that a lot when I worked at a
salon. I'd lose a few clients when the owner was at the reception because
she didn't know how to reply, tactfully.
Really really useful advice! I'm a freelance teacher so I'm going to do the
same as you do!. Thank so much Eve, I'd want to watch more videos like this

Some key points for me (quotes are not what he literally said):
Question your assumptions....
Negotitation is relationship management...
Identify objective standards
Communication = convincing the other side that you have heard/listened to
them
Stay in dialogue
Prepare..."
Never lie! You do better in the long term. If you are trustworthy it is
easier to get stuff done
focus on the positive
How can you make things better for the other side?
Know your alternatives
Know objective criteria for such a situation (e.g. salary companies pay for
a particular job)
If you visit other countries, try being the humble American. It is not that
common...
So this games is really to show both parties that both sides can fail if we
make certain choices affecting the outcome where not only 1st party wins or
loses its that both parties win. Thus; introducing a third outcome instead
of failing or losing you both win or both lose. In this game there's an
option where both players win. An astonishing genius that Mr Nash.
