I got that, its just not good. this is what little kids that get high act like. Believe it or not people of all ages and maturity levels smoke weed. Some people can smoke and just go on with the work day, but people who don't smoke seem to think you have to get goofy and say dumb things. Was just trying to make the point that these guys must not get high often.

I have a grow op as a side business, and I have another business as my main occupation, and I will not allow people to be stoned while they're working for me. Its too dangerous and irresponsible to allow it. People assume they can get away with being high on the job just because I'm a grower and support cannabis. Wrong---I will fire them on the spot.

I thought it was a bit funny, I don't see all the outrage. I understand the whole "stop pushing the stereotype" but this wouldn't be something that conservatives would point to and say "see! That's how they are!" It's clear enough to identify as comedy

+mike plitnick Man that game has changed for the worse. In the late 80s and early 90s we did some cell work. After 2000 I did some closeout work with a "buddy" who got into trouble not being able to complete his work. We don't get involved with cell work at all. However, I'll bet you're still like a "rock". :-)

Often we have to plan carefully and determine just how long a job is going to take but we also get called out on "emergency" work in which we get in our trucks and "show up" not necessarily knowing what we need to do or how long it's going to take to do it. We gather what material and tools we think we're going to need, talk about what we need to do when we get to the work location then we merely get on the ladder and climb. A climb to 1200 feet takes about an hour if we're going specifically to that height. Coming back down takes about half that time. Gravity helps during descent. Sometimes the work begins at some level and continues to another level as in the video on this page. We had to go to about 900 feet to get the loose cable to come back to the tower then worked out way down securing it with solid electrical wire. John

How long on average, if there is such a thing in this line of work, does going up, doing the work needed, and coming back down take? I imagine there is quite a bit of planning involved, before gearing up and taking that first step on the tower.Sorry for the questions. It's just very interesting and unique work that you do. I'm intrigued.

+barneyrebel0123 Hello Barney, The work is indeed very interesting. Doing a job like this at 900 feet I charge somewhere above $2000 on average. My employees are guaranteed 40 hours a week and overtime when appropriate. They do pretty well and based on salaries as a percentage of gross revenue the company does well also. When the company does well, I do well personally. Tower work is pretty expensive to engage in. Insurance and compliance costs quite a bit and there's always some new requirement popping out of the wood work that costs money, like vehicle repair. Still, the work is interesting and challenging. Years ago my safety equipment weighed a little over one pound. Now I wear 20 pounds of safety gear. Each time my guys go up a tower they are wearing about $1600 worth of safety gear, supplied by my company. In other words, it's all quite relative to the work situation. We're not raking in the money but we're doing pretty well.

+Tom Measor I've known quite a few people who lost the essence of what makes life a pleasure after a stroke. My father had a stroke at 70 and lived with very little improvement another 14 years. My original boss and mentor in the two-way business, a genius by any measure, recently had a stroke and is not doing well. You seem to have recovered the ability to communicate and maneuver this maze we call the internet. You've also regained balance through vision. I take a lot of steps to avoid a stroke like my Dad. I'm happy that you seemed to have recovered. Apparently you applied yourself to regaining what you had lost. You may consider me brave but I fear strokes. You've had the courage to work on recovery and for that I applaud you.

I never used to be frightened of heights, it's only since I had a couple of minor strokes that heights effect me now. I lost my sense of balance so now I just use my vision to keep my balance which makes me suffer from vertigo. If I get caught in a power cut during the night I have to get on all fours to get around lol. I do think you have to be exceptionally brave to work at those heights though.
