Wire Wrap Ring Tutorial , Celtic Style Band with a Love Knot
On-Line Teaching at www.wireguild.com Classes at www.inthestudio.co.uk This is a really easy wire wrapped ring designed so that anyone can have a go at.
Point 1:50 the wires are laced together - 1:54 I have taken the wires and
pulled them around in a circle - Image each set of three wires are
travelling around a central point both going the same way following each
other. As you continue to go round the wires will create a swirl design on
top of the ring - It may not look exactly like mine each ring is different
but that is all there is to it. However as I replied to Maria and Memicoot
I will do a short vid and post when on my facebook page.
I can't get enough of you!!! I have subscribed everywhere I can to your
tuts! I have only done this for 1 month no idea what dead soft means. I use
the name brand "Artistic Wire" and I just see the gauge on there. But my
swirl looks AWFUL not fluid at all. Is there a different wire I should use,
more practice, or would a 22 maybe be better to start? My family is going
to love all the cool jewelry I'm making for them but I can't seem to make
this one look right...any suggestions??? THANKS!
Hi Rachel, I'm excited to try this. Thank you for making this! 1. Are your
pliers the type that stay closed on their own (the ones you clasp behind
the scrap piece you bind the 3 wires with at the beginning) or are you
holding them closed on there (and braiding with the other hand)? 2. When
you do the final wrap (after you've made the swirls on top), are you
wrapping the 3 tails on each side just once around the ring band? It looks
like it but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks again!
So I am making a ring in my jewelry class (from a silver ring blank) I've
already gotten the hang of it with two other rings now this one I get to do
all my own nearly no rules. So i pose a question I plan to build this rind
over the plain band and either drill holes to bring the wire through at the
top and do the design OR solder this ring onto the other. My ring is due
next tuesday, and I'll go into the studio to work tomorrow, anybody have
ideas for me?
The ring made in silver is really beautiful and you can add an extra
dimension by oxidizing it. I have not worried about the copper rings as I
do not wear them constantly or for more that a day at a time so the green
finger thing does not kick in. You could always lacquer the copper there
are many products on the market that will stop the verdigris. Happy
wrapping Rx
Okay as I said to Maria - I will do a piece of video so that you can see
what happens, it really is very simple once the wires are laced together
one from the left one from the right and so one you just twist them around
as if the wires were two cars and they drove around and around a mini
roundabout. But like I say I'll do a vid and note it on facebook when ready
I had to through the tute again to see which one I used LOL this one is
pretty old and I got it in a batch of jewellery tools I bought on e-bay.
Not a lot of help I know but if you are in UK I would suggest cooksons or
Walsh's both stock ring mandrels if you are in the US I would suggest
riogrande if in another country I'm afraid I am at a loss. Hope this helps.
So glad you enjoy the tutorials please don't forget to check out the
adverts as this is what makes the free tutorials possible - As they pay me
I can provide free tutorials otherwise I would spend my time making ones
that had to be paid for LOL I get paid - The advertisers get seen - you get
free tutorials Great really - Don't you just love youtube.
Hi Maria - I can not add a piece of video to the tutorial without taking
the whole thing down and re-editing however I will do a short piece to
clarify the twisted top piece and put it on my website - It may be a few
days before it is up - if you check the facebook page I always inform there
of any new additions.
I'm new to this wire wrap ring thing... One question, my 20 gauge does not
bend as easily as this one (or so it looks), are you using dead soft wire?
I'm still figuring out what all the vocab means. Thanks! This ring looks
gorgeous and I can't wait to try and make it!
Thank you for this well-done tutorial. I generally prefer video, but
you've made this ring project very clear with your good photos and
narration. I'll have to watch this a few more times to fix it in my head,
but I think I'll give this one a try. TFS
The pliers are just standard pliers and I am holding them closed, at first
it does feel a little like you need an extra hand but I promise it gets
easier. And yes I wrap all three end on each side. Hope you enjoy making
the ring! happy Wrapping R
EXCELLENT TU-UT!!RACHEL!!:) I love discovering what you have made,it
inspires me to create my own interpretation,,you are the GREATEST!! Love
your accent too!! Hello from across the pond! THANKS SO MUCH for taking the
time to do these btw! :)- M
Thank you so much for the lovely tutorial. YOu made it so easy to make a
very pretty ring. I had to turn the sound all the way up to the maximum to
hear you and had to keep everything else in the house quiet for the
duration, however.
I know I'm sorry about the sound, the learning curve for doing the youtube
thingy has been quite steep, however all of the recent tutorials have much
better sound levels (I needed a new Mic) Hope it didn't spoil the tutorial
too much!
Hi, sorry you feel that way, many, many others have had success with this
tutorial - there are only three wires and they are just plaited then
twisted together - I don't think different coloured wires would help you at
all.
I have made some very lovely pieces from learning here. Are they
professional not likely, but the fact that a NEWBIE to wire wrapping, such
as myself, can follow this series of education and understand it speaks
volumes!
I love this ring! (I tried to do it several times but it comes every time
different!!). If you don't mind, I shared this tutorial on my facebook
funpage (Barbara's lab). Thank's again and I'll never give up!!!
I think she meant how you actually do the interweaving, which I have to say
is very confusing, I just tried & have had to give up!! I like all your
tutorials but this one is just not working for me at all!!

It also looks pretty awesome if the sections are braided. This is my go to
to jazz up a low side pony - with the sections braided tightly, you can
space the figure 8 out to look even spiffier.
If you're really adventurous, do multiple braids and arrange them to lay flat next to each other... like a 3 stranded celtic figure 8 knot for macrame... it's pretty awesome.
