I ran into your video again, I wanted to ask you - when creating a polygon
pipe and I set height to 1 and measure it later - it measures 0.5. Why does
it do that? I would understand if it doubled it to 2 - then it would mean
that the measurement was radial, and it doubled it to get the diameter - 2.
But it shouldn't halve it.
+Mike Hermes Yes.I thought of that already - but then it should divide by 2.54 not 2.Obviously I can just double the measurement and the model will be up to scale, but I don't think this is the best solution.
Is there any way to display the measurements while you are crating the
object? If I want to create a box that is 1 meter tall and 2 meters wide
for example, can Maya show the measures on the fly while I scale the
object?
+Sam Fisher Sam, that wouldn't really work because if the image in Maya isn't scaled properly, the measurements are off. If the grid seetings are incorrect, same problem.
+Lokolopes7 I think you would use photoshop to create the reference image that using the correct measurements and then bring the reference image in maya and start modelling the object according to the reference image.
I don't understand this distance tool. Can't you snap to grid or to
vertixes with it? It only seems to work with your extremely inaccurate
mouse clicks. How is this useful at all? I would like to know the exact
length of a cube for example. Is there a way to do that?
+Mike Hermes lol, I just figured you can just select the indicator and place it where ever you want xDSnaping it to verts is no prob. Using a point constraint works if you want the distance between their centers I guess. Dun think I'll need to too often. But it's cute.thx m8
how would I change the grid to being say 2 city block so I can model
houses. is the units under preferences for modeling and the grid units
under display grid, is that for grid settings for large scenes? also since
scale is important under preferences the uv generator under display it will
say swatches to generate uv tile. does this effect pixel tessellation?
+Mike Hermes I had one more question, sorry for all the questions. so if I model in cm(default) and say I make a 7ft plank. I model it at 213.36 cm? so really, the scene is still as big as ft just in a different measurement? The reason I ask this is because when people use bifrost, they model either in cm or meters ( I know bifrost works in meters) and not sure if there scaling down there models after built or not to get there large scenes? or if there models are so small and that each unit is cm bifrost is using each unit as a meter so there big scene can be done with say 12 cm there actually getting like 40 feet.
+Mike Hermes ok, I was getting confused by I thought you can change the grid to say miles and then change the working units under preferences to feet. I guess it would be much easier to keep it at meters than just use Google free unit conversion to make 6 feet in meters would be 1.8288 . but if I were to use bit frost, wouldn't I have to scale down say a coast scene because bit-frost can only be so big I think 10 meters, so I would have to model like in kilometers?
HI,I am bit confused but what you are saying but this is the way it is.1. Under preferences you can set you grid settings to centimeters, meters etc. This will then be the measurement of one square on your grid. So if I were to model 2 city blocks I would set my grid preference to meters. 2. Would this have an effect of 2D external texturing files used ? Yes of course.Is this what you are asking ?Mike

@dpombo160 Changing his tone adds nothing to the info we're getting, this
isn't hallway smalltalk. We're here to learn. I'd rather have him be
comfortable making these videos than to have some fake happyface actor
teaching me. Also, crying about something as trivial as that makes YOU seem
"annoying and unprofessional". As for the video itself, the
pronounciation's kind of hard to get at times but it's understandable and

huge! The Scale tool doesn't fix it, as the parts scale independently from

wasn't following the lessons well so i have to get up with this, i have 12
days left now, hope i can make it, still need to learn alot during this

Your tutorial is good, but I can't understand well what u say sometimes,
and you have a very slow and depressing tone of voice, like if you were
extremely bored, fix that cause it's annoying and unprofessional.
