What I was saying though is that it is indeed different than this tesla situation, mainly because those are just city regulations, not state wide, and it is purchasing something with a total price, and not a continuous monthly fee.

+46619TABAh, its because you live in a city most likely then. Almost every city has stricter regulations for shit like that.  You could have a rainwater collector though and truck in the rest, then use whatever power source you use and just cut ties with the entire power grid totally, lol.

+rdizzy1 The utility providers here operate on a minimal billing system vs what's actually consumed. The water bill which includes trash pick up is never less than $74+change per month. This past March we were away on vacation for 3 weeks, no trash was put out for collection and the water was shut off at the in-house main but the bill was still $74+change.We normally keep the house at 65 during the day and 70 at night in the winter and despite having the thermostat set at 50 for those 3 weeks, the bill for March was the same as it would have been had we been here.We don't use a lot of electricity and had only the hallway 'nightlight' set on a timer. The March bill was the same as any other bill. I was told by the local electric utility that if I were to be able to to power a house for 4, two guys and two Greyhound, and I was connected to their service but not using their service [IE the meter is running backward], the bill would still be the same 'minimal amount'. And they don't have to do a 'buy back' if the solar/wind power generates more power than we need or can store.I was also told by the local Building Department that I cannot use propane for anything more than a backyard gas grill and I cannot have a well for water within city limits.It's a sweet deal if you can get it and they have it so it's a lose lose for people wanting to live off grid.

+Fernando Pulido It increases the cost of the car.Since Tesla is alternative fuel, cut backs were necessary (in their opinion) to be stay competitive/profitable. Instead of cutting quality, they chose to cut out the mostly-pointless dealership.

And no one is saying that dealerships shouldn't exist, just that it's wrong for them to lobby that companies HAVE TO do business this way.  Elon Musk explained in his blog how the dealership method has caused a number of startup electric car companies to fail and why he favors the direct sale method at this time.

There are always people on each side that go against the general ideology of their group. That doesn't mean everybody in that group agrees with them. Liberals are constantly creating more rules and regulations and burdening businesses with them. Conservatives are against such things. That you don't know this is ridiculous. In a survey of which states had the most freedom vs which were the most restrictive, conservatives were running the 10 most free states, and liberals the least free. There's a reason some republicans are called RINO's and that's because they go against the party. As you folks can see from our "conservative" friends here, my original post still holds true.  For anyone can tell you all kinds of pretty words like, "Freedom" and "liberty" and some even mean it.  Or often say things like, "I believe in the Free Market" or "I'm not a Bigot."  But as the old saying goes, "Judge a man by his actions, not his words."And if you judge conservatives by their actions then it's plain that all of these cute little saying they like to preach at you is just that, words.For every conservative voted in since WW2 has expanded government, increased spending, and reduced a freedom here and there.  Not to mention that things like torture suddenly became, "Enhanced Interrogation."The Tea Party has had ample opportunities to rise while Reagan tripled the debt.  Or while the Bushs was starting illegal wars, stripping freedoms, and all on the government credit card.  But they magically had enough 2 whole months after the first non-white president took office.They claim to be for Free Markets yet even now they have have conservative legislatures blocking companies like Tesla for political reasons.I could go on but the point has been made, conservatives are full of it.

Everybody knows that conservatives are the ones who want smaller government, fewer regulations and a free market, while liberals want larger govt, more regulations, and unfair laws to try to level the playing field and eliminate competition. So Christie is the traitor here, and he's to blame, not conservatism. We could say that a conservative wants to conserve older ideas of a less intrusive govt and a free market, the way it was before car dealerships even existed.

It's not conservatism. It's what happens when a conservative acts like a liberal. It's why conservatives don't like Christie.
