FREE MARKET: Texas BANS Tesla from Selling Directly to Consumers

In my area of the US I'm denied the right to build a 100% self sustaining
house off grid. Why? Because it's not connected to the utility companies
and their minimum amount monthly bills. Same issue for Tesla.
What I was saying though is that it is indeed different than this tesla situation, mainly because those are just city regulations, not state wide, and it is purchasing something with a total price, and not a continuous monthly fee.
+46619TABAh, its because you live in a city most likely then. Almost every city has stricter regulations for shit like that. You could have a rainwater collector though and truck in the rest, then use whatever power source you use and just cut ties with the entire power grid totally, lol.
+rdizzy1 The utility providers here operate on a minimal billing system vs what's actually consumed. The water bill which includes trash pick up is never less than $74+change per month. This past March we were away on vacation for 3 weeks, no trash was put out for collection and the water was shut off at the in-house main but the bill was still $74+change.We normally keep the house at 65 during the day and 70 at night in the winter and despite having the thermostat set at 50 for those 3 weeks, the bill for March was the same as it would have been had we been here.We don't use a lot of electricity and had only the hallway 'nightlight' set on a timer. The March bill was the same as any other bill. I was told by the local electric utility that if I were to be able to to power a house for 4, two guys and two Greyhound, and I was connected to their service but not using their service [IE the meter is running backward], the bill would still be the same 'minimal amount'. And they don't have to do a 'buy back' if the solar/wind power generates more power than we need or can store.I was also told by the local Building Department that I cannot use propane for anything more than a backyard gas grill and I cannot have a well for water within city limits. It's a sweet deal if you can get it and they have it so it's a lose lose for people wanting to live off grid.
Why doesn't Tesla just open up its own dealership, call it something weird
so it seems like a third party dealership, and just get the product out
there?
+Denis LaraYeah thats the exact thing I said, if proponents for "states rights" end up winning, this will happen more and more, as more states will legally have the right to do this type of thing.
+Fernando Pulido It increases the cost of the car.Since Tesla is alternative fuel, cut backs were necessary (in their opinion) to be stay competitive/profitable. Instead of cutting quality, they chose to cut out the mostly-pointless dealership.
+Denis LaraIt's ok for the governments to regulate companies and whatnot, when it is done to protect consumers from fraud and such. THIS however, is done to protect Ford and GM, companies that I assure you have given money to Texas legislators.
+rdizzy1 Yup, but all succesful, giant companies start as companies focused on a single service. Perhaps they could expand, they surely have the resources.
+Fernando Pulido Probably because they are a production company only...? I dont know..

'Free-Market' Chris Christie Blocks Tesla Sales in NJ
"Free market" supporter Chris Christie blocks Tesla sales in New Jersey ...
interestingly enough if you cheat your wife or are guilty of similarly mundane "crimes" in your private life, your career is done as a politician. But in your job you have basically a free ride to screw up big time as often as you want to and nothing will happen to you. If that's not fucked up I don't know what is
They prefer people buy from them directly for training purposes. Theres just as many jobs with tesla as with any other dealer... When theres a problem with the car they actually send technicians to your house!
So, set up legislation to artificially create new jobs? I'm going to have to ask you to pay someone else when you respond, I've made a law where comments cannot be added except by third party unions.
+Das BaudiNo, but it's a valid point I bring up that is not mentioned. Can you imagine buying a car from the manufacturer and trying to figure out having service done?
And no one is saying that dealerships shouldn't exist, just that it's wrong for them to lobby that companies HAVE TO do business this way. Elon Musk explained in his blog how the dealership method has caused a number of startup electric car companies to fail and why he favors the direct sale method at this time.
+Elhardt It's never a flaw with conservative values when they do what many other conservatives do, it's just that they are being a bunch of liberal conservatives, right? If they fart the wrong way, it's the liberal way to fart, because conservatives are really Jesus incarnate and can do no wrong, lest they are possessed by liberalism.
+ElhardtAnd if you look at happiness or financial burden on the Union, you'll see those "free" states at the bottom of the pile.Face it, conservative states are welfare queens, they draw more in federal money than they contribute, even TexasHell, the only right leaning states that can even compete exploit natural resources which would still be there under different governance.Casting further afield, and you see that social democratic nations have the best educated and happiest people, and they're basically socialist states.Don't worry your head though, you don't need to listen, reality has a well known "liberal bias"
Notice how Elhardt is trying to keep the focus on Christie and off the other conservative states that pulled this same stunt. What conservatives are full of again? :)
+MegaGideo Who knows if Christie is a crook until he pulls crap like this. The reason this is even a story in the first place is specifically because Christie is going against conservative and free market principles. If this were normal, it won't be a story and we wouldn't be talking about it.
+Elhardt- So I guess Christie runs Texas, Arizona, and North Carolina too huh. Nice straw man argument with using Black murderers btw. Remember, judging a man by their actions and NOT by there words you'll see conservatives at the very least tolerate this bad behavior while folks like yourself would make a nice show denouncing it. If conservatives really were true to there word then they wouldn't be voting in these crooks, folks like Rush, Beck, and O'Rielly wouldn't have jobs, and W would be rotting in a prison by now.
+Dm Gray Your comments change nothing. I explained clearly the difference between conservative and liberal ideology. There are always people on each side that go against the general ideology of their group. That doesn't mean everybody in that group agrees with them. Liberals are constantly creating more rules and regulations and burdening businesses with them. Conservatives are against such things. That you don't know this is ridiculous. In a survey of which states had the most freedom vs which were the most restrictive, conservatives were running the 10 most free states, and liberals the least free. There's a reason some republicans are called RINO's and that's because they go against the party. I wonder if MegaGideo above would say that all blacks are murderers just because some are, and we have to judge all of them by the actions of a few... So again, because Christie does something stupid doesn't mean that's the conservative platform. It just means he's spineless or been bought.
+ElhardtBullshit. You are complaining because I don't think people get to redefine language whenever they want to.I'm not a dictionary literalist, I think language is dictated by common usage, and the dictionary catches up.That said, common usage has to be held to certain standards. Having ideologically motivated spin doctors dictate words is not good. Also, +MegaGideo explains how you are full of shit anyways.America is right wing. The republicans are ultra right wing."being more right wing" is not the answer.Even republicans of 40 years ago would be unacceptably liberal hippies, fucking Bob Dole couldn't get support for a largely symbolic ratification of international law based on US inspired civil rights for disabled people.Face it, the Republicans went insane with Reagan, and do not look like they want to recover.
As you folks can see from our "conservative" friends here, my original post still holds true. For anyone can tell you all kinds of pretty words like, "Freedom" and "liberty" and some even mean it. Or often say things like, "I believe in the Free Market" or "I'm not a Bigot." But as the old saying goes, "Judge a man by his actions, not his words."And if you judge conservatives by their actions then it's plain that all of these cute little saying they like to preach at you is just that, words. For every conservative voted in since WW2 has expanded government, increased spending, and reduced a freedom here and there. Not to mention that things like torture suddenly became, "Enhanced Interrogation."The Tea Party has had ample opportunities to rise while Reagan tripled the debt. Or while the Bushs was starting illegal wars, stripping freedoms, and all on the government credit card. But they magically had enough 2 whole months after the first non-white president took office. They claim to be for Free Markets yet even now they have have conservative legislatures blocking companies like Tesla for political reasons.I could go on but the point has been made, conservatives are full of it.
+Dm Gray You're simply looking at a dictionary type definition. Everybody knows that conservatives are the ones who want smaller government, fewer regulations and a free market, while liberals want larger govt, more regulations, and unfair laws to try to level the playing field and eliminate competition. So Christie is the traitor here, and he's to blame, not conservatism. We could say that a conservative wants to conserve older ideas of a less intrusive govt and a free market, the way it was before car dealerships even existed.
+ElhardtThat's not really conservatism. The clue is in the name. It's about preserving the status quo, not making rash decisions or changing things for changes sake. Traditionally this involved deferring to authority.Capitalism =/= conservatism.Libertarianism =/= conservatism. You can be both and still a conservative, but they are not the same thing.
+FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 The rich buy both parties. However your comment has nothing to do with the subject of Christie not taking the conservative stance.
+Hexdoll The true conservative position is that it's no place for government to dictate how a business can sell its products. It's just that simple. Since Christie is going opposite that position and taking up the liberal position, then conservatism isn't to blame, Christie is to blame.
So I suppose the GOP in North Carolina are "Acting Liberal" too huh. That statement reminds me of what's going around in tea party forms. They would accuse those that isn't conservative enough of being secret liberal/progressives.
