I'm reading a pattern that says "paired m1 (make one) increases: first
increase of each pair: using the left needle, pick up horizontal strand
between last stitch and next stitch, from the front. Knit through the back
loop. second increase: using the left needle, pick up the strand from the
back and knit." could you tell me the difference between this and "make
one"? I would be extremely thankful if you could help me with this.
Thank you so much for these wonderful videos. I'm a beginning knitter and I
have some friends that are wiling to teach me, but I live about 300miles
away in the boonies so I can't really pop over to their house to ask them a
question. Your videos are very easy to follow! Thanks again!
Wow, this is my second time trying to learn (self-teach) how to knit. I
even asked what a M1 was the other day on Ravelry! I have never been able
to understand it.. just plain Make WHAT??!?! But, now I think I may go back
and work on some patterns I had passed up in the past.
@Imnotdumbimjustcrazy - If the pattern does not specify then it does not
matter. Use your personal preference. Just make sure you use an opposite
increase on the other side of the row. If you do a m1l at the beginning of
the row, then do a m1r at the end of the row.
Oh thank you so much for you reply! As a starter, your videos have been a
great help for me, I'm your fan! Just to make sure it goes like this: "PM,
k1, PM", so it means that on the first PM, I'll m1l, then I'll k1, then on
the other PM I'll m1r?
How do you know when you need to make a stitch that will lean to the left
and when you need to make a stitch that will lean to the right? The mittens
I'm trying to knit just say increse.
This is so cool to watch. Ive started knitting lace and at times its
confusing me still. Though with your explanations its all easy! Many thanks
and greetings from Germany.
+Esther Bland Esther, THANK YOU for the Thank You. I see you like this stitch - I think you'll like this hat and the rib stitch brim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR2Yrd6neO4.. Let me know.. if you have any specific brim in mind. BTY, Love the picture - You guys have great smiles - makes me smileBig Hugs !denise
+Esther Bland WOW Esther that is a GREAT idea. The design by Bonny it is not done this stitch - it's actually the figure 8. I don't have a video of the complete pattern but I do have one of the figure 8 stitch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQUqQsGRrsE
Hi Denise! Love this stitch and would love to knit a scarf with it, but I
cannot work it into a scarf pattern without going really wrong. Can you
PSE show us a scarf pattern in this stitch, pse?!
+Azeem Ahmad Azeem - this video was just for the stitch and not a complete project. Here is a link to a scarf - just change the stitch to this one.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdxFdqy6u1s
Hi Denise, is this stitch also called the double i-cord lace stitch
featured on the snood pattern on ravelry? I'm definitely a visual learner
so I am confused by the instructions of the pattern which says:
Stitch pattern is worked on pairs of pegs as
follows:
To begin the row, knit peg 1
*[Wrap yarn across both pegs 1 & 2; knit off] 2x
After knitting the 2 pegs twice, peg 2 becomes peg
1 and you are ready to work the repeat.
Repeat from * until the end of the stitch pattern.
End stitch pattern by knitting the last peg one extra time.
I'm hoping this is the same stitch so I can watch this video to make the
snood pattern.
Hi Denise, yes I ended up asking the same question to Brenda (the designer of the snood) and she was able to let me know they were similar but not the same. This was also before I knew exactly what a snood is...I don't want something to tuck my hair in - which her pattern could be made to not have to be worn that way. The snood is actually historical head wear - def learned something new there! I'm just looking for a hat suitable for warmer weather. As a big time hat lover (already ordered 5 hats from shops on Etsy (4 of those from CappelliHats which I absolutely adore and 4 of the 5 are her lace berets - my favorite hat for sure). I'm wondering what kind of hat, if any, I could wear in warm weather. Your stitch shown here would be a possibility if made in some sort of hat pattern. Thank you for answering my question Denise! You are def the hat expert! :)
+Brooke Bingham Hi Brooke - no they are not the same. The do have some similarities and you might be able to get some idea of what is being requested by watching this video but this stitch video will not give you that specific pattern. .. Sorry
Love love love this stitch. At first I thought it would take a long time to
do but it doesn't. Looks cool. Makes a beautiful little baby bonnet design.
+K Sulkins Glad you like it and the bonnet is a great idea... Join our Facebook Family and post the picture when you're done - would love to see it.. https://www.facebook.com/LoomaHat
i'm doing the stitch in the round and i have a bit more of a space where
the hole is a bit bigger on the very first row. is there any way of
avoiding? thanks
Extra Stitches! Mini Knitting Lesson with Rachel's English
Meet my friend Rachel Smith, a former opera singer and expert on American English pronunciation! Her channel helps non-native American English speakers ...
Staci, have you tried knit picking? I find it so much easier than the
throwing method. I learned as a thrower, but now I knit pick and my
knitting speed has gone up exponentially. What are your reasons for
continuing with throwing, out of curiosity? I noticed at first I had
trouble maintaining even tension when beginning knitpicking, but I've
learned how now. Do you think it's easier to learn the throw method versus
the knit pick?
Hi Girls, We use the "In , Over, Through and Off" here in the UK or at
least most of us up here in Scotland do and find that the wee rhyme keeps
them knowing what they are doing next. But well done Rachel, as you get
more accustomed to knitting you will be knitting an blanket / afghan in no
time at all.
I'm glad you asked, Dana! Yes. When people are first learning to knit, I
like to give them the satisfaction of creating stitches and fabric right
off the bat. When they see that they can actually make something, they get
excited to learn more. Then they are more patient with learning to cast-on.
Hi Staci ! I love your channel and never miss a video, I wanted to know
your interest - if any, in handspun chunky yarns and any suggestions on
projects to make with them - a video showcasing sone various handspun
chunky yarns would be awesome !! Thanks Staci !
LOL very nice! I love all of Staci's video's Rachel, and you have the best
teacher right there showing you! I'm from the south, so have a fairly
strong southern accent, maybe I will try to learn a new way to pronounce my
words on your channel!
Thank you for your videos. I taught myself to knit several years ago,
stopped, and am now starting again. I know I can always find something to
refresh my memory or to learn something new that I have never tried.
Thank you for your response. That makes total sense. I teach new knitters
and children a lot. I find it easier to teach children than adults
sometimes. LOL! I may have to try this. Thanks again.
This was great. Always love Staci's videos but this was good because I know
someone in Ukraine that is learning to speak English. She will love
Rachel's videos! x
Utilissimo il tuo video! Non ricordavo più come fare e mi hai risolto il
problema! Grazie.
