Knitting around the neck: German Twisted Cast-on (aka Elastic Cast-on aka Old Norwegian Cast-on)
I was faffing around with my yarn yesterday trying to work out how to do the German twisted cast-on with the yarn tensioned around the neck. I think this is it.
Your videos are so amazing! Thank you! I'm practising on the portuguese
knitting method, and it's working out pretty good, in flat knitting. It's
easy to get used to, though I've taugt knitting in continentel style 46
years ago, by my parents. (yes, dad knitted to). Is it possible to use the
german twisted cast on, to knit in the round? I would like to knit a
sweater top-down, using the purl stitch all the way on the inside of the
Work.

Old Norwegian (a.ka. Twisted German/Elastic Long Tail) Cast On Left handed
The Old Norwegian (a.k.a. Twisted German or Elastic Long Tail) Cast on provides a nice stable edge with a corded appearance that has a nice elasticity to it.
It would be easier to understand if you showed it from the point of view of
the knitter instead of from across. You could put the camera between your
chest and your hands and look through the viewfinder to see what you're
doing while a good friend holds the camera . That would be worth it.
@Khamomil Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback and I'm so sorry it
took so long to reply to you! We are definately working on camera angles
and the like and will certainly keep this awesome tip in mind! Thank you
for watching...happy knitting!

@coolsteven2 I usually start with a question, like "best cast-on for
socks?" and then look on ravelry at what others suggest. Then I search
online for examples, learn the technique, and make a video (this one is for
a sock class I'm teaching at Old Town Yarnery). I hope you've found it
helpful!
Yes, I understand the concept of copyright laws. I know Meg & Elizabeth
sell their videos, since I purchased the DVD I used here. I posted this
video because I was asked about what clip I used to make an animated
version. This 31 sec clip is useless as an instructional video, being
incomplete and out of context. So I doubt I am cutting into their bottom
line. In fact it seems more likely that posting this clip w discussion is
more likely to increase interest in their work & therefore sales.
That's what brought me here too! I love my EZ books but I was able to see
them before I bought them.I don't like buying a set of videos, regardless to
who made them, sight unseen.Copyright law is more extensive than,'It's mine
and you can't use it'.Check under "Fair Use".I'm sure an artist using a
thirty-second clip to show the inspiration for something that in a way
gives tribute the original falls under 'Fair Use'.It's not like victrolux
is giving the series away. It's free advertising!
victrolux - this makes your work even more impressive! Thank you! German
twisted ... hmmm. As you may be aware - Many of the common ways of knitting
(ie. Continental) fell out of favor during WWII due to it's being thought
of as "German" (ie bad guys) and Zimmerman brought it back into favor.
(which is fine, since it's just knitting, folks). Again, I do appreciate
being able to see the complexity of what you did to this original.
@victrolux "it seems more likely...to increase interest"... Exactly! That's
how I ended up here in the first place - I didn't want to buy without at
least a short preview. If I end up making a purchase, then EZ and her
daughter will owe you a thank you. Thirty seconds...seriously, ladies....
