@ScreamTips The number of stitches depends on your project. You can cast on odd or even number. But if you cast on even number and start a first row with knit stitch, then your second row will start with knit. But if you cast on odd number your second row will start with purl. In this video I have 13 stitches. So I started the second row with Purling.

It depends on your yarn size. My recommendation is 100 stitches if you choose fine size(size 2), 90 if you choose size 3 ,or 70 if you choose medium (size 4). however if you knit very loose, you may start 10 stitches less than what I recommended. For more size information you can refer to "Knitting Gauge" in my website. Good Luck!

The only difference is that in first row you should knit the first stitch then insert the needle between 3rd and 4th stitch, but in row 3 you shouldn't knit the first stitch. You jump on inserting needle between 2nd and 3rd stitch.

Hi, Your welcome! Because all return rows are simply purled, it's not matter how many stitches you cast on. You can cast on any number depending on the size of your project.

It is not necessary, I just do it to make it easier. You defiantly can knit one row, but then you have to purl that row.

Why is it necessary to have 2 basic rows?
