+Avalanche2 Actually it is a Lancer. Race caller fucked up. Dodge had Lancer, Plymouth had Valiant. I should know, I own two '62 Plymouth Valiants. That baby wasn't a Plymouth.
Sure can't!! I had to drive this truck for about 2 weeks after a tree fell across my F-150 and was in the body shop. I hand calculated the MPG I was getting around town. Mostly 40-45 MPH and some stop and go. Got 17 MPG. Surprised me.
+Cindy McGregory Then there is something wrong with the engine because the slant 6 is not an underpowered engine and your truck is only a 1500. My dads 83 d150 does steep hills just fine because the 6 is a torque engine. How many miles does the truck have?
Bad oil pump? My buddy had an oil pump go out on his 79 volare with the
super slant, only 78,000 miles. The oil pump drive gear was a press fit on
type from the factory, it just came loose, lost all oil pressure and caused
a bad knock, still ran perfect for awhile that way. He unbolted the motor
mounts, lifted it til it was touching the firewall, removed the oil pan,
and rolled in a set of new main bearings(2 were bad), a set of rod bearings
for good measure, and a new oil pump. All better! :)
You kiddin me...we worked a 225 slant back in the day runnin 20 pound
boost...after a year of killing the bejesus out of it...the only thing that
happened was the plugs fouled up....fark that thing flew...u can bore em
out to 240plus..hit 11s dead in a 1300kg car...i swear this motor is a
fuckin legend second to none...notin comes close ..you cant kill this
motor(thats why truck use it)...best motor ever made...MOPAR OR NOCAR!!!
Depends on what slant 6 you use. The 225 is a low reving torque monster
with a redline around 4000RPM. While the smaller Slant 6s (170s and 198s)
had 4400ROM as the redline, IIRC. A lot of racers liked the smaller Slant 6
engines, because they could go at higher RPMs which lead to a lot of
modifications that could get the smaller engines to be great track cars.
While the 225 is all about low end torque 215lb-ft@2400RPM.
Turbo is a T-60, I think it is a stage 5 wheel, .58 hot- .60 cold.
Internals are Forged pistons and turbo cam. The rest is stock swather
block. Headwork is bigger valves and bowl port. Carb is primaries only 575
Demon BT. 3.23 gears. Thanks
are you running an auto transmission or manual, shift kit??? i am in the
process of building a ap6 val in australia, not sure weather to toss the
225 and fit a 360 or 440 or turbo the 225. do you many problems with
tuning.????????
575 Demon matched what I doing and the 3.23 gears are because I shift at
5500 w/ a 26" tire. I'm putting 2.94 gears in this winter so I can still
shift at 5500 and run 10.90's. Ran a best of 11.48 @ 116 late last year.
What is redline on that 6 ? I've read that people had problems with the 'ol
slant 6 back in the day for they would over rev them (inadvertently), thus
damaging them. It was a good engine though, with lots of torque.
The 225 earns it's reputation for indestructiblity. Go find the 1977 Dodge
Tradesman videos at the Dave's Farm channel to get an idea of just how
tough the damned things really are.
11 seconds is so fast for an old ass inline 6. Not many companies built
inline sixes this well back then. The slant 6 was far ahead of it's time,
even being carbureted.
