How To Teach A Dyslexic Person (Episode 6) The Gift of Dyslexia/ Book Review
If you have struggled to learn your whole life, check this out! It has nothing to do with you mental capacity, and everything to do with the methods used to teach ...
Ok, sorry one last question, answer forthcoming or not: So, I gather it is
nouns that are simple to see, like cat. But words with "meaning" are not
understood unless they are taught with meaning, in a grounded, pragmatic
way, like "before" as coming behind something in a time line, so they can
see the meaning. IE? Concepts must be seen as representing real situations
in time. . . . you know, this is like how a HIGHLY intelligent mind would
work. I have both sides working so I get this entirely.
Sounds like you are teaching it EXACTLY right, of course. Just like
vocabulary being the first step in learning language. Deal with what words
you see/use first and don't get into hypothetical (remmeber this cuz you'll
run into it eventually). Instead, help them learn to DO the learning in the
moment, with words they will see every single sentence. Then they get used
to doing it and know how to when a new word comes. It's teach a person to
fish, rather than give them a fish when they are hungry
I am so sad that we didn't get to learn your way, because I've known for a
long long time thats how I needed to learn it things, but all these left
brain people just cannot come to terms with that order. I still can't
understand that first way you explained it and I am very good at math now..
when I teach it to my self backwards. It pisses me off how much time I
wasted being dumbed down while I was told I was being lazy and I knew I was
intelligent. I felt degraded disappointed and confused.
So when we figure it out ourself instead of being told, it makes more sense
to us? I believe you said something like that on ep 1 too. If thats true,
then no wonder things are starting to make more sense. There are somethings
I've been "taught" all my life, that only started to make sense after I
said fk it and started to go about it in my own way, little did i know i
suddenly found my way back to what i had been "learning" all my life, just
never realizing it. Wow.. this is a break through.
I ordered the Davis system based on your recommendations. The problem is
I'm trying to of through the materials myself and I am having a hard time.
I would appreciate any insight you could give me. I'm just not really
getting it. My ADD is getting worse even though my Dyslexia is a bit better
if that makes any sense. You mentioned you have tricks and shortcuts. I
don't think you'll get in trouble if you just make a general video about
dyslexia tips and not reference the davis method.
Hi Kelli! This video series you've created is awesome! I work with dyslexic
kids and would love to create a seminar for parent/teacher awareness. I
have the Gift of Dyslexia book but was wondering if you would be willing to
share some of the handouts you created (shared here and in video 5) with
me? If so, my email address is:[email protected]. I would
GREATLY appreciate it! AWARENESS is KEY and I want to help create more!
Thank you, xoxoxo
I also see why I thought if this person I knew/know as "normal" and
intelligent. . . . but sociopathic nonetheless. I was stunned to find that
beneath the intelligence was an ill intent. My deepest question is, is the
sociopathy from fear and if so how can that island of isolation(causing the
insanity of a sociopathic mind(IE data assessment error) be breached? Or
can it not. . . . Get the book? Or is this a heart issue, or is there a
difference?
I FOUND "THE GIFT OF DYSLEXIA" TO READ FREE ON THE INTERNET. It's a PDF
file so it's perfectly safe from virus! Just google "The gift of dyslexia
pdf" and it will be the one titled with BIG LETTERS. It will be somewhere
on the first page and should have 258 pages, (appearently the short
version). You can also save it on your computer. Thumb me up if you found
it and so other people can see this!
@xx13angelina13xx True, but you have to understand the educational system
ties the hands of a lot of teachers. Being in a private school, we could do
what we needed to do to get the job done. In public school, it's different.
There are so many state rules.
