I personaly think this video is wast of time, SRCDS was invented and accesible for a reason. But if you just wanted some friends from what ever planet to join and IF this does actually work. (Never tried it, i always did it the propper way.) Then the problem may be due to port falwarding. If you gonna host a server "Just Like That" then you need to configure you're network to allow your server to go "Public" basicaly portfalwarding allows players to connect and stay connected, in a word.

It wont let my friends join because whenever they try it says for them: "Disconnected after 4 tries" or something like that and I really wanna make a server on gmod. btw im on mac osx lion if that has any difference. Also, it would really help me for someone to redirect me to a gmod server mac tutorial if there is one. Whoever is kind enough to help, thanks.

Click start, and then type CMD and press enter. Then type in ipconfig. ipv4 adress = your ip address. Make sure to send me ur ip address so i can further assist you with any problems you may be experiencing ...jk

No. Using ipconfig will give you an internal IP address. Your friends cannot connect to your server using a 192.168 IP. Seriously? Please read about what you're trying to do. Jesus.

make sure you are doing all the steps right and for some types of ip adresses this will not work and also make sure your firewall suports you hosting servers.

go to the original steam server list (in gmod): **if the server running on your computer- go to "local" and you will see 1 server (the sv_lan doesnt matters) **if the server not on your computer you will need the servers ip and port, then go to favorites, right click>connect by ip, and then (servers ip):(port)

OK, I did port forwarding a while ago, and went to the PortForward website (saying it like that because YouTube won't let me say the actual website), nothing works. I guess my router does not allow it, I have just been using LogMeIn Hamachi or Evolve instead.

You use ULX. go to ulysses.net to download ULX. Then if you have it working type in your server's console "ulx adduser [yournameinhere] superadmin 1". Then you should have it working...

add "+sv_gamemode terrortown" and "+sv_defaultgamemode terrortown" to the launch options, and make sure the "-map" option launches a TTT map :)

In order to play with your friend you need to port foward using your router (which i assume you've done) then after that you need to go to google and search "What's my ip" this will give you the ip your friend uses. (like i said only works if you port fowarded)

(im so tired and frustrated) i use cisco which is obviously different from what that jack guy has. in cisco, theres a spot that lets me type the last 3 numbers of the IPv6 address. then it tells me to port forward. which is 25565. am I using the right one? im in america. and also, only i can join my game not my friend

You need to updated the server not the SteamCMD. To update the server you just go through the install with the CMD and it will install missing files.

Make sure the person you are trying to connect with is online on hamchi and playing Gmod,otherwise it will not work for shit,thats why some of you people are getting that failed to connect after four retries error

If you launch hlupdater.exe without making a shortcut and changing the target it will not go past bootstrapper. The only reason his did is because his was already setup
