Hey there, I have the same head unit with backup camera in my 2004 Dodge
Ram. I wired it up myself and this is how it must be done. The camera must
have live power all the time for the camera to work, so what I did was ran
a video cable, power wire, ground wire from camera to to behind the deck.
Plugged vid cable in and for power and ground I tapped into power and
ground wire going to cig lighter. For the reverse camera activation I ran
wire from back of head unit back to backup light + wire
Thanks for the review. It is very helpful. I have a couple of questions: 1.
Can you route your Google Maps or Andriod Navigation from your phone to
your head unit, so it shows up on your HU screen? 2. Is there any sort of
voice recognition for the hands free calling? If instance, can I press a
button and say "Call Mom", and have it call from my contacts, or do I have
to actually dial it from the HU or my phone? Thanks again. Sorry if this
has been covered before.
Just wanted to add that I just bought and installed this unit. The unit is
pretty decent but the ipod interface could be better. I hate how it has to
reload album art everytime you change songs on an album. Also the ipod
search function sucks, on my old pioneer unit you could touch the album art
and it would show all tracks on the album but no luck on the jvc. Does the
jvc ks-u30 cable give you more control versus using just the ipod
charge/sync cable?
Thanks, I haven't used google maps on this but it should work. However you
do need the jvc ks-u30 cable for it to work and it has to be through an
iphone, android will not work(not yet at least) the cable is strictly for
apple. As far as the voice recognition to my knowledge ,it depends on the
phone you are using because its the phone itself that has the voice
recognition and you are just feeding it through the head unit via bluetooth.
Hmmm, it might have to do with grounding out your parking brake wire. Did
you do that? Or it may have somethng to do with the type of camera you are
using? It should just be input in and you should be able to push camera
button anytime while driving and it comes on. For me the only thing I did
differently was ground out the parking brake wire but I dont think.it
should have anything to do with that.
I got the trim from sonic electronix, however it was tricky to get the
proper trim for it, it took 3 times before I got the right one. In my case
(and probably yours) you need the trim that comes in 2 pieces, a left side
and a right side. There is no top or bottom. If you get one that is a full
frame it won't fit, even though it says so. You can find them on Amazon as
well. good luck!
I'm wondering when it goes into telephone mode is your phone near you? If
it is try turning your bluetooth off on your phone. As far as the "TP" that
will always flash, it has nothing to do with your phone, it's for traffic
reports or something. Mine always flashes. Also remove the faceplate and
reinstall it to make sure there isn't a bad connection there. Let me know
how it goes.
Yes the camera must have a "live hot wire" all the time.I ran one all the
way up to the cab.Best Buy installed mine initially so I had to figure
things out myself.Just like Brady Thompson posted.I got my power from the
fuse box under the hood.#43 misc acc ign.I used a add a circuit fuse and
worked out pretty good.It is great being able to use the camera while
driving!
fasterk9, Can u remember how u wired backup camera? U say on the video when
you go into reverse this is what u are going to see. Then u say that when
you touch camera button u can see what u might be towing down the road.I
can only see my camera when in reverse. When i touch camera button nothing
shows up.Any help?I really want to see trailer when I am driving. Thanks
You will not see album artwork through bluetooth, just the music. You would
need the cable for that and that only works with apple. As far as the apps
go it would also use the apple apps. There may be a firmware update that
supports android better, you may want to check the jvc website for that.
What are you using to stream music?
Ah ok thank you, I had another question. I think you already answered this
and you explained it as well in the video but i just want to make sure; To
get the video to work without setting it to your parking brake all you
would have to do is ground it correct? I don't need any sort of toggle
switch?
As far as the quality of the phone for bluetooth , i would rate it as
good.Hearing the caller on your end is no problem. As for the other end its
good not great ,however its the best one I've had and depending on your
placement of the mic and turn the level of the mic down to one helps a lot.
I did ground the parking brake wire.I was wondering how it would "power"
the rear camera.I think it is powered through reverse light.,so it comes on
when you put it in reverse. This is driving me crazy.I really want to be
able to see when i am driving.Did you install your rear camera yourself?
Two questions, if you could answer them. Can you tell me if Google Maps on
the iphone work on the apps thing? Also, how quick is the menus for songs
on the bluetooth for iphone. I've decided to try and find one of these in
Australia and the cheapest place has it for 379$ online.
Thanks for the video. Due to your video i decided to buy the unit today but
my main screen does not look like yours. I do not have a Iphone connect
only my phone with bluetooth. I do not see the Apps, Sirius or Pandora on
the radio.... do you know why? ciao from the Netherlands

The Phone Menu access should not be a problem with any iPhone running iOS6,
even when it is connected via USB. The only issue that may occur is the
Bluetooth control (AVRCP) of music streaming wirelessly from an iPhone with
iOS6. Pioneer is currently working on a firmware update to connect this
issue. Feel free to call for additional assistance:

Of the models featured in this video, the JVC KW-AV60BT was the only one to
offer a detachable face. It has since been discontinued and is no longer
available. The good news is; the replacement model (KW-AV61BT) also offers
a detachable face. Feel free to call for additional assistance:

Can you use the phone menu on the Pioneer while having your phone connected
to the USB port? I know with the latest update for the iPhone, IOS 6,
people have been saying that the bluetooth doesn't work that well since
they've done the update. Thanks - Nick
I apologize for taking so long to respond. JVC will give you the most
control and Pioneer is the only one who will comment to the quality of the
crossover (12db per octave). Feel free to call for additional assistance:

When it becomes available, you should find the firmware update listed (with
instructions) in the “Support” section of the main Pioneer website.
