The method I used, associating real life objects with the characters themselves was something made up cause I thought it would be the best way of learning, since I logically look at the symbols instead of just memorizing them with no questions asked. You're right though, that's why I was looking for an alternate solution. In the long term the method I used so far will affect me and I probably won't be able to have a conversation with someone or read anything without taking 5 minutes of thinking beforehand. I'm looking forward to this system called Anki and like you said it's not about luck, but about dedication, the willpower to not give up. I wish you a happy and fortunate life my friend.

+Kyokshin I may not be an internet personality, but that whole image association thing only lets you memorize, by using the images you are increasing the number of steps your mind must take, slowing your reading and listening down long term, to learn you will need to struggle a bit and get a direct connection between the words (in this case kanji), the meanings and the pronunciation.  Use anki, it's a free flash card system that you will be using everyday for about an hour, of course take a small 5 minute break between. Get the "Japanese core 10k with pictures and sound" It's fast, effective and doesn't have any unsubstantiated science in it's advertizing. Give it 4 months and you'll be listening, reading and speaking about 60% of all japanese, another 6 months to get to 80%, after that it'll be best to be in a japanese environment to get to 95%. You'll need to practice writing separately using your own methods, but I'm sure you can figure that out on your own. I won't wish you luck, instead I wish you long-term commitment and willpower. Don't take long breaks like I did, it'll delay you by twice as long as the break you take.
